If you’re keeping up with theRed Dead Redemption 2PC mod sceneyou’ll have probably noticed that there’s a little trick that lets you channel your inner animal. So much so that you become the animal. Originally I came across this last night through some videos posted by Eurogamer’s Emma Kent, and they’re truly something to behold.
OriginallyEurogamer reportedthat you can play as an eagle in the PC version ofRed Dead Redemption 2thanks to TanyaeNorth’sModel Swap tip on Nexus Mods. The “mod” basically replaces Arthur’s model with any NPC in the world, although it’s worth noting that not all models are supported yet.
The way it works is by simply going to the save folder location, “Rockstar Games” > “Red Dead Redemption 2” > “Profiles” and then locate Arthur’s model file “SRDR30000” and replace with your chosen animal or human NPC model. The in-depth method to complete this can be read on Eurogamer or Nexus Mods by clicking the links above. Here’s an example of Emma Kent playing as Sadie Adler.
The beauty of this is that players don’t just control Arthur as the NPC model, but instead they become the actual NPC. Meaning you can quite literally become the animal with its own mannerisms. However, as it still uses some of Arthur’s animations you wind up with some incredible looking animations or cutscenes.
Take this for example, when playing as a horse, the cutscene finds the horse flinging its wrinkly testicles all over the screen as the rest of its body seems to be trying to replicate Arthur’s original scripted animations.
There’s also a Reddit users example of a sheep heading to bed after a long day baa’ing about. And when sitting down on the bed the sheep model becomes horizontal and odd but results in an entertaining visual experience.

It’s also worth noting that this level of choice seems specifically tied to the PC port of the game, although players were able to play as birds in the console versionas shown here.
Red Dead Redemption 2is available on Xbox and PS4 and more recently on PC. It’s due to launch on Google Stadia this month.
