XDefiantplayers who tend to rely on spammy behavior to gain an upper hand in matches may want to count their days if they don’t let go of their ways.

XDefiant’s team is actively working toward curbing spammers.

According to one of the game’s developers, the game never intended to allow that kind of gameplay, and measures to discourage it are actively being worked on. And for some players, this isn’t news; the closed beta from last year already had a mechanic to punish jump shotting, but it didn’t work out so well.

XDefiant isn’t Giving Jump Shotters and Spammers a Pass

Ever since the closed beta, the team behindtheCall of Dutycompetitorhas been insistently cracking down on players who like to use spammy tactics in matches.

One of their first methods to go about doing that was to punish players for using too many jumps and crouches by adding an aim sway for 1.5 seconds at max (unless you continued to jump and crouch).

While people appreciated the sentiment, the feature wasn’t received too well, mainly because of its implementation, which didn’t feel so smooth. It was eventually removed. There are stillcomplaints about the game’s jumping mechanic, but that is another discussion to be had.

AsXDefiantfinally came out of closed beta recently, a developer from the game thought to bring to many new players’ attention the staff’s hard work on reducing spam in matches.

Even the XDefiant community is having none of it!

He explains that the developers still have their eyes on spammers, and while the aim sway feature to penalize such players was disabled, the team is working on bringing in another system to curb this behavior.

@ACHES makes it clear that the team doesn’t want to make players feel restricted in their movements and wants them to be able to take advantage of all the mechanics; however, as the dev puts it: “…there’s a sweet spot between intended use and spam and we want to get that right.”

Explaining their thorough process behind the decision, @ACHES then asked the community for all of their feedback on how they could go about implementing such a mechanic.

The XDefiant Community Doesn’t Like Spammers Either

Under @ACHES’ tweet, there was a lot of support for them and the team. It seemed to be the most common sentiment that players with spammy movement have no place in the game.

I said this in regards to other games. Spamming one movement over and over is not skillful. Understanding when to use it and how not to fall into that penalty is what makes players good. People think cuz they spin in circles they are cracked 😂

One player hoped that the “sweet spot” the developers were looking for would be found soon.

PATTY!!! Understandable, but please find that sweet spot like you mentioned. Keep the skill gap apparent 😄🙏

Of course, where there’s praise, there’s bound to be a few naysayers as well.

One X/Twitter user alluded to the fact that spammy movement meant the player just got used to the movement more than others.

Punishing such movement by nerfing it meant that the developers were appeasing “worse players.“

It got many replies, with a lot of people disagreeing with the statement. The debate about jump shotting isn’t new, but it seems people are less tolerant of it now more than ever.
