Today’sNintendo Direct Minipromised a lookat upcoming, previously announced titlesfrom their development and publishing partners, and that’s exactly what it delivered. Alongside some newThe Legend of Zelda: Cadence of HyruleDLC, a look atShin Megami Tensei III: Nocturne HD RemasterandVand a trailer forRogue Company, we got a fresh trailer forWWE 2K Battlegrounds.
The trailer showed footage of WWE Superstars Big E and Kofi Kingston (New Day), Asuka, and Cesaro getting stuck into the game on the Nintendo Switch. As previously advertised, the game is carnage. The gameplay footage shows Andre the Giant, Stone Cold Steve Austin, John Cena, and Jeff Hardy in the ring battling it out in a less than traditional manner. Stone Cold Steve Austin is seen using a motorcycle as a weapon, Jeff Hardy is fed to a crocodile that is outside of the ring, and Superstars are using their signature moves flying through the air.
Due to the critical and commercial failure ofWWE 2K20last year, WWE and 2K opted out of releasing a traditional game this year, going instead for the more arcade-likeWWE 2K Battlegrounds. The game is described by 2K as an “arcade-style brawler that brings over-the-top WWE action to new levels of intensity.”
The game has a total of four modes confirmed so far: Exhibition Mode, Campaign Mode, King of the Ring, and online, alongside a character creator and is confirmed to have over 70 superstars available to choose from. Of the 70 available there will be a mix of current favorites and returning legends including The Undertaker, Shawn Michaels, and Mankind.
WWE 2K Battlegrounds, which has both a standard and special edition available, releases on September 18 on Google Stadia, Nintendo Switch, PC, PS4, and Xbox One. If you haven’t already picked the game up, you’re able to grab the standardversion on Amazon to help support the DualShockers.
