Eventually, you’ll find out that this Red-Clady Lady is the Bo Magus, and the Storyteller implores you to put a stop to her evil machinations as she intends to envelop the world in the strange red growth that’s begun to sprout from the ground.

TheBo Magus is an optional final bossthat is crucial in achieving the “Successor of the Bo” ending inWuchang: Fallen Feathers, and is asurprisingly easy late-game bossdespite her powerful spells. Still, she can be quite the formidable foe if you don’t have the right build. Here’s a guide on how to find and defeat the Bo Magus.

Where To Find Bo Magus

Throughout your playthrough, you’ll encounter the Bo Magus as the Red-Clad Lady, who seems invested in your Feathering abilities. Simply followthis guideto follow her questline.

She reappears in Chapter 4, in the end game, when the Storyteller reveals that you must put a stop to the Bo Magus.Agree to help him, and head over to the Tang Palace, which is a considerable trek from the ruined Shu Sanctum.

When you arrive at the Tang Palace and the pond where you once dueledCommander Honglan, you’ll see the Red-Clad Lady, now Bo Magus, standing atop a pillar, sniping you with her magic while monologing.

There’s no way to attack her, but getting near her will make her teleport to the next location.

In your pursuit, you’ll pass through the Palace Vegetable Garden, but be careful since the shrine is actually a mimic. Make sure to defeat it before you rest.

Proceed onwards, and you’ll find imperial soldiers fighting Avian beasts and Bo creatures. You may choose to either engage or leave them be.

You’ll find her again near a ravine. Avoid her bombardment until you arrive at the Palace Pass shrine, which will then take you to theVermillion Feathers fight, where you’ll have your rematch with Honglan.

This time, she has a power-up that can only be described as a mix ofElden Ring’sMalenia andFF7’svery own One Winged Angel, Sephiroth.

After the battle, a door will manifest, taking you to a different area where you’ll meet the Boatman.

Proceed onwards, and you’ll find the Palace Entrance shrine.

The path will then take you down a shaft filled with powerful monsters, but they’re way too busy worshipping to attack you (unless you attack them first).

Keep descending until you reach the bottom, which is where you’ll find the Bo Magus.

Preparations For Bo Magus

The Bo Magus boss fight is a surprisingly easy one.She doesn’t have a lot of health, and her attacks mainly deal Feathering and Magic damage. Here’s the build that I used to beat her:

Lashing Whip

God Guard Mask

Centipede Carapace

Centipede Vambraces

Centipede Leg Armor

Jade Pendants

Dragon-Fish Pendant

Eagle Pendant

Tiger Pendant

Ethereal Form

Manna Vase

Temperance

Crimson Lantern Fruit

Bone Whistle

Temperance Needle

Notable Impetus Repository Perks

Sword Saint,Windforce (Longsword),Energetic, Rapid Temperance

The Bo Magus is a considerably easy boss, especially for the late-game, when you’ve already leveled up quite substantially. She’s not particularly strong, but she can still catch you off guard with her powerful spells.Preparations may be necessary if you’re worried about surviving her more flashy parlor tricks.

Because Bo Magus’s repertoire consists mainly of powerful spells at her disposal, you’ll want to look forarmor sets that grant you extra Feathering and maybe Magic damage mitigation, including (but not limited to) the Clerical set from theFeathered Priestboss or the Night Specter set.

In my fight against her, I didn’t take a lot of damage from her spells. I was wearing the Centipede armor set, which doesn’t offer much Feathering damage reduction. This might be due to my being overleveled at NG+, or her spells just don’t deal much damage. Keep this in mind as you prepare.

She might also deal Slashing damage when she conjures a blade with her staff, and summon echoes of enemies to deal Blunt damage. Those attacks, however, are well-telegraphed and are easy to dodge.

As for items, your options are flexible.I had my healing flasks, a FlameTemperance, and didn’t even use my other two items on my quick access menu, so you may use any consumables that you feel are necessary, like stamina-boosting items or a full heal if you somehow run out of Manna Vases.

While magic might be a viable option, there’s a high chance that she may be resistant to magic attacks.

Still,if you prefer magic builds, then spells like Echo of Zhu Youjian from theDragon Emperormay be useful for this boss fight, as it can absorb any incoming spell.Just make sure you have at least four Skyborn Stacks available.

Echo of Honglan also deals considerable damage to bosses, and can even activate Alacrity if you dodge at the right time.

Melee combat might be the better play, though;a decent axe buildcan quickly knock her down with Rampage ability, and can interrupt her thanks to its heavy attacks.

In my case, I useda powerful longsword buildto quickly defeat the Bo Magus thanks to its quick light attacks, which allow me to quickly build up stacks of Skyborn Might to deliver Windforce-charged heavy attacks to leave her open to Obliterate attacks, whichshe is particularly vulnerable to after casting spells.

Ethereal Form is the only spell you really need regardless of your build, and is perhaps the strongest in the entire game, assuming it doesn’t get nerfed. It gives you a three-second buff that automatically evades any attack while refunding aSkyborn Mightstack for every attack dodged, allowing you to instantly cast it again whenever.

If that’s not powerful, I don’t know what is.

ForJade Pendants, prioritize equipping those that give you bonus weapon damage. The Tiger Pendant gives you extra 10% physical damage, Dragon-Fish Pendant boosts your max stamina, and Tigraliz Pendant lets you deal more damage at the cost of taking more damage, though you can change this with any other Pendant you feel most appropriate.

Since we’ll be running circles around the Bo Magus to deliver backstabs and Oblierate attacks, anyBenedictionthat gives you a boost whenever you gain Skyborn Might or land a hit on her back is welcome. Below is a table of Benedictions I would recommend for this strategy:

Wei - Backstab Force:Increases the potency of Backstab attacks.

Sheng - Obliterate Rejuvenation:Obliterate attacks recover a small amount of health.

Sheng - Obliteration Might:Obliterate attacks increase your damage for a time and grant Skyborn Might.

Sheng - Backstab Rejuvenation:Backstab attacks recover a small amount of health.

Ren - Combo Vigor:Consecutive attacks increase your Stamina recovery speed.

Wei - Combo Force:Consecutive attacks increase your damage.

Wei - Skyborn Force:Increases your damage during Skyborn Might.

Bo Magus Moveset

Bo Magus has a limited melee moveset, and mainly relies on her spells to get the job done.

The information on the moveset is based on a single fight with the Bo Magus. There may be additional moves not shown in the clip or mentioned in this guide.

As you’re fighting her, she’ll occasionally teleport around the arena while casting spells.

One of the main starting spells that she’ll use isthrowing explosive red spearslike she’s been doing ever since you started chasing her throughout Worship’s Rise in Ruins. This move closely resembles the Feathered Priest’s spear attack, which also deals splash damage on impact.

She can also leap into the air and fire a series of homing feathers at you, similar to Honglan’s Echo spell from the Vermillion Feathers fight.

She may alsosummon ghostly images of enemies like the Godguard, who will sweep at the ground with their giant sticks. Their attacks are slow, so they’re quite easy to avoid.

The Bo Magus will then do a little dance before floating into the air, channeling immense power to summon a golden sword that she will plunge into the ground to deal continuous damage in a wide AOE.

While channeling this spell, it would seem that she is immune to projectiles, preventing you from dealing free damage and interrupting her spell. However, this may be due to the Vorpal Blade’s limited range. Testing with Echo of Lu Bingzhang may be necessary.

Her other spells also include firing several homing Feathering balls at you, similar to Xuanyangzi in theFeathery Ambitionboss fight.

While slashing at you with a long magical blade, she can mix in a thrust with a spear, which can potentially catch you off guard if you’re only expecting to avoid red-colored attacks.

She can also cast explosions with a delayed secondary detonation, similar to one of the Dragon Emperor’s attacks.

When her health bar is at 50%,she’ll slam her staff into the ground to deal three hits of AOE damage in a wide area before enveloping herself in a bubble that will take 10 hits before breaking, regardless of damage numbers. Keep in mind that she can cast this spell more than once during this “second phase.”

How To Beat Bo Magus

Because of the Bo Magus' reliance on spells and her lack of melee options, you may attack her relentlessly with very little consequences.

Melee combat is the way to go.Despite her status as a boss, her stature as a regular-sized human makes her a complete pushover when it comes to heavy attacks and backstabs.

Windforce-charged heavy attacks from swords (and most likely from axes as well as spears) will briefly interrupt and stun her, and backstabs immediately knock her down for an easy Obliterate attack. Keep in mind thatbackstabs have a cooldown,so try not to spam it too much and waste your Skyborn Might stacks.

A fellow DS writer noted that axes are especially effective against human bosses like the Bo Magus, who can be easily knocked down with a single Rampage cast, so this is worth trying out.

At the start of the fight, the Bo Magus will gently float down to the ground, and will be stuck in that animation for a few seconds.Make use of that time by running up behind her to get a few free hits in, building up a stack of Skyborn Might and then immediately unleashing a charged heavy attack, staggering her for an Obliterate attack.

For the rest of the fight, her attacks are relatively easy to dodge, even without Ethereal Form, though there’s no shame in spamming it. Better safe than sorry.

Continue to whale on her and knock her down by any means necessary–whether it’s through an axe or a backstab, the Bo Magus is as beefy as a stringbean.

The only notable obstacle would be her shield, which takes 10 instances of any direct hits to break.Yes, I counted.

For the rest of this fight, keep hounding her and don’t give her any room to breathe, and she won’t stand a chance against you.

Vanquishing the Bo Magus will reward you with the following:

If you’ve followed the steps to achieve the “Successor of the Bo” early ending, you’ll also immediately finish the game without beating Feathery Ambition.
