Battle for Azerothhas certainly not been thebest-receivedWorld of Warcraftexpansion in the MMO’s long history. In fact, many fans consider it one of the weakest Blizzard has ever put out. However, the developers get one last push at giving players the quality content they crave withVisions of N’Zoth, thefinal content patch. Will this final patch turn the expansion around? Or will it just serve as filler while players wait forShadowlands? We’ll know for sure soon, asVisions of N’Zothlaunches January 14.
The final patch before the release of a newWorld of Warcraftexpansion is often lackluster. I vividly remember spending days hate-playing the Isle of Quel-Danas back inBurning Crusadedays. And don’t even get me started on the let-down that was going from the Icecrown Citadel raid to Ruby Sanctum. However, Blizzard seems to have gotten a bit better at structuring their expansion patches to keep captivating content. Personally, I fell off ofLegionmid-way through the cycle, butShadows of Arguswas enough to bring me back for one last extended stay.
Visions of N’Zothdoes have some great things going for it. Notably, Horde players can play as Vulpera as their new allied race. The Alliance has Mechagnomes, but let’s be real. There’s also a new 12-boss raid that should keep most players engaged for a few months. The raid culminates against the Old God N’Zoth, which should be an epic conclusion toBattle for Azeroth. There are tons more, but those seem like the biggest takeaways.
Listen, as probably the person on staff that’s put the most time intoWorld of Warcraftover the years, Battle for Azeroth has been disappointing at best. I didn’t even hit the level cap before getting bored. However, ending the expansion with a battle against one of the four Old Gods is a big deal forWoWlore nerds (there are dozens of us). Hopefully, Blizzard can put compelling content around what should be a massive boss fight.
