While the fourth season kicked off with a few episodes, fans are now left waiting as the rest won’t drop for another three weeks. The short break might be frustrating, but it only adds to the anticipation for what’s next in this haunted adventure!

Ghosts’episode 9 of season 4 left the plot with an exciting revelation

Episode 9 ofGhostsSeason 4 took fans on a thrilling ride with a big twist that has everyone buzzing. The show aired its festive doubleheader episode on June 17, 2025, before heading into a planned hiatus. But it left viewers on edge. Why? Well, the supernatural sitcom finally revealed how Jay could see ghosts, a question fans had been speculating about for ages now.

The Christmas special delivered this twist during a heartwarming yet chaotic storyline. Pete, played by Richie Moriarty, took over Jay’s body, played by Utkarsh Ambudkar, so he could say a proper goodbye to Laura before she left for Australia. While Pete’s intentions were pure, the other ghosts, closely mirroring characters from the UK version ofGhosts, weren’t thrilled about it. And they had a point!

When Pete hugged Laura, the possession backfired, briefly turning Jay into a zombie. Thankfully, Jay’s spirit returned to his body just in time, and he was none the worse for wear.

The episode didn’t just stop there. It also gave viewers a touching moment when Jay thought about his parents’ dreams. As the credits rolled, fans were left wanting more, eagerly awaiting the continuation of this hilarious and heartfelt ghostly adventure. Now, the countdown begins for what comes next!

Why did they go on a break?

The winter break forGhostsis part of the show’s planned schedule, making the final episodes of 2024 before the cast and crew take a well-deserved but frustrating-for-the-audience holiday pause. This timing isn’t unusual, as many networks opt for a break during the busy festive season. It gives the team behind the show a chance to relax and spend time with their families, while also making room for special holiday programming.

For fans craving theirGhostsfix, CBS is keeping the holiday spirit alive. On the hiatus kickoff night, they aired festive reruns with Christmas-themed episodes from Season 2 and Season 3, running back-to-back from 8 PM to 10 PM ET. While these nostalgic episodes are a treat, CBS plans to continue filling the usual timeslot with reruns during the break. Occasionally, the show might be swapped out entirely for special holiday broadcasts.

This seasonal pause not only gives everyone involved in the show a breather but also lines up perfectly with the slower TV viewership during the holiday hustle. But the break will last a little longer than the audience anticipated.

The hiatus is going to last longer than anticipated

The winter hiatus forGhostsis turning out to be longer than expected, leaving fans waiting a little more impatiently.CBSbegan its holiday break around Christmas, and new Thursday night episodes won’t be back until January 30. This extended pause affects not justGhostsbut also other shows likeGeorgie & Mandy’s First Marriage,Matlock, andElsbeth.

With the next episode almost a month away, fans will have to wait until nearly February to see what’s next for Jay now that he’s finally interacted with the ghosts. It will also tackle how it might change his dynamic with Sam.

Although the long gap is disappointing, it’s also the perfect time for viewers to catch up on missed episodes from this season or even revisit earlier seasons. CBS might offer reruns ofGhostsduring its usual timeslot.

What will happen in the upcomingGhostsepisodes?

CBS is keeping tight-lipped about Episode 10 ofGhostsSeason 4, revealing only its release date. However, fans have some exciting hints to look forward to in the second half of the season.

Star Rose McIver teased that upcoming episodes will explore the ghosts’ backstories in greater detail, with a special focus on Pete. In fact, Pete will take center stage in an episode directed by McIver herself. Expect plenty of flashbacks and heartfelt moments as the ghosts’ life stories unravel. She said (viaDeadline)

Well, I think in the second half of the season, we go further into a couple of other characters back stories. It’s always some of my favorite episodes when we get into these incredible flashbacks, not just from a character standpoint, but production design and the costume and makeup and everybody really steps up. We have some Pete-centric material coming up in the episode that I direct. So we get to learn a little bit about who he is and where he’s from.

Interestingly, several of these stories will take the ghosts beyond the mansion. Since most spirits can’t leave the property unless they possess someone, it’s likely we’ll see more of them stepping into the bodies of Sam, Jay, or even other living people. This opens the door to fun and unpredictable adventures!

On top of that, fans are still wondering what consequences Jay’s newfound ability to see ghosts will bring. The fallout of his interactions with the spirits could lead to some hilarious and emotional twists. While the wait for new episodes might feel endless, these story teases promise an exciting continuation of the supernatural sitcom, making it all the harder to stay patient during this long hiatus!
