TheElden Ringwas released in 2022 and was a massive success. It was special because FromSoftware took a very exciting first step towards making open-world games. And this game blew up; fans loved it, and so did critics, and rightfully so, all thanks to FromSoftware’s dedication to building an unmatched open-world experience. Then came the announcement forLies of P. This was another soullike game that was very interesting to look at and reminded fans of an age-old game.

Developers Neowiz Games and Round8 Studio were very proud of their new game from day 1. While it was very obviously inspired by FromSoftware’sBloodborne, it offered its own twist on the genre. But were the developers worried about facingElden Ringin the field?

While there was a huge gap between the launch ofElden Ringand Lies of P, some still saw them as each other’s competition. But the developers of this game were not going for that; they were just doing their own thing here, developing a game that stands out while honoring an incredible FromSoftware game.
When talking during an interview aboutElden Ring,Lies of Pdirector Choi Ji-won called it the pinnacle of quality and complexity in the genre. This is an interesting thing coming from a developer who many see as a competitor of FromSoftware. He also suggested that he does not think Soulslike games should have an option for difficulty.

It makes sense that the developers never thought ofLies of Pas a competition to FromSoftware’s masterpiece. The reason is that it would have been very hard for them to match it. And they are not worried in the least about the competition either; there’s a good reason for that.
He suggested thatthere are a bunch of things that makeLies of Pstand out from your usual soulslike game. He talked about the game’s protagonist, and also talked about how they created vibrant new combat mechanics.

It makes sense too;Lies of PandElden Ringare only similar in the fact that they are soulslike games. Otherwise, they cannot be more different. One is based in a Victorian-inspired city where some kind of technology reigns supreme.Elden Ringis an open-world fantasy game set in a massive open world where magic is a common thing.
“First of all, we have a cool Pinocchio as a protagonist, we have really diverse and colorful combat mechanisms; on top of that, there is the lying mechanism which fits the story of Pinocchio and fits the ending.”

Despite how people compared these two games, they are as successful as ever.Lies of Pwas so successful that they have alreadystarted work on an expansion and a sequelOn the other hand,Elden Ringbecame the fastest-selling game for its developer.
Will they make a sequel beforeBloodborne 2comes around?
With the speed at which developers ofLies of Pare working, it looks like the sequel toLies of Pwill come faster than FromSoftware develops the next installment of their game.
It remains to be seen if the rumoredBloodborneremake ever comes around. Speculation is thatDemon Souls remakedeveloper Bluepoint is hard at work on this game.
