Regiments of Renown are some of the best units you can recruit inTotal War: Warhammer 3Immortal Empires regardless of which faction you’re playing as. Unlike regular units, Regiments of Renown can be recruited instantly and always start out at max level. The downside is that you can only recruit one of each.

Most Regiments of Renown are reskinned versions of regular units that come with better stats and/or extra abilities. In some cases, a Regiment of Renown will be vastly superior to the unit it was based on while in others the difference will be quite small. This list covers Regiments of Renowns that are not just strong by themselves, but also measurably better than their standard counterpart.
10The Sunmaker
The Sunmaker is a Helstorm Rocket Battery Regiment of Renown that was added to The Empire roster alongside The Grim and the Grave DLC. Regular Helstorm Rocket Batteries are already some of the best artillery pieces in Immortal Empires, but the RoR version really takes things to the next level. The Sunmaker’s missile strength is about twice as high as that of a regular rocket battery and the unit shoots more projectiles with each volley. The ammunition count seems a lot lower, but the unit card is a bit misleading in that regard.
The Sunmaker can only shoot eight times, but every volley consists of no less than nine rockets. By comparison, a standard Helstorm Rocket Battery can shoot a total of 22 times, however, volleys consist of only three rockets. The Regiment of Renown does take longer to reload, but that’s a small price to pay considering a single well-aimed volley can wipe out an entire unit in one fell swoop. Unlike a regular rocket battery, The Sunmaker also deals fire damage.

9Gallows Giant
The Gallows Giant is a Regiment of Renown available to the Vampire Coast and uses the Necrofex Colossus as its base model. There are many differences between the two, starting with the fact that the Regiment of Renown loses much of its range but gains additional combat capabilities in return. The Gallows Giant no longer fires cannonballs and prefers to use a massive flamethrower instead. Its fire-based attacks deal less armor-piercing damage than usual, but they inflict the Burnt status effect that lowers enemy leadership.
As far as melee combat is concerned, the differences are even greater. The Gallows Giant has a bunch more weapon strength than a regular Necrofex Colossus and gets a bonus versus infantry. Meanwhile, the Regiment of Renown also inflicts fire damage along with the Burnt stats in melee as well. Aside from Queen Bess, the Gallows Giant is the only unit in the Vampire Coast roster that deals fire damage and is absolutely indispensable against certain races.

8The Black Lions
The Black Lions are a Regiment of Renown that can be recruited by Empire players who own The Hunter and the Beast DLC. This is a pretty unique RoR that works like a combination between a War Wagon and a Hellblaster Volley Gun. The RoR is closer to a War Wagon when it comes to most of its stats, but its damage is comparable to that of a volley gun, though its range and ammo count are both a little bit lower.

As far as passive abilities are concerned, The Black Lions can hide in forests just like War Wagons and can attack city gates like a volley gun. Unfortunately, the Regiment of Renown can’t fire whilst moving but, unlike a field gun, it can run at normal speed since it’s technically classified as a chariot. Individually, the stats and abilities of The Black Lions don’t seem all that impressive. However, when you combine the unit’s ability to hide with its ludicrous weapon strength and fast movement speed, you get a Regiment of Renown that can wreak a lot of havoc in the hands of a good player.
7The Sphinx Of Usekph
The Sphinx of Usekph is a Regiment of Renown introduced alongside the Rise of the Tomb Kings DLC and is available to all factions pertaining to the titular race. This RoR is based on the Necrosphinx and, at first glance, there doesn’t seem to be much difference between the two in terms of stats. The Sphinx Of Usekph comes with about 10% more health and a little more melee attack but has lower leadership and is obviously pricier. So is it even worth getting The Sphinx of Usekph over a regular Necrosphinx? In short, yes.
What some players might overlook is the fact that The Sphinx of Usekph deals both magical and flaming attacks while a regular Necrosphinx has neither of those imbuements. That’s a pretty big deal considering a regular Necrosphinx is already very powerful but struggles against units resistant to regular or armor-piercing damage. Aside from the Hierotitan, The Sphinx Of Usekph is the only unit in the Tomb Kings roster that has both flaming and magical attacks. It’s also the only unit that has fire resistance.

6Hashut’s Dark Ravagers
Hashut’s Dark Ravagers is one of the Regiments of Renown added with Forge of theChaos Dwarfs. This RoR is based on the Bull Centaur Renders and comes with a little twist. While the regular centaurs are dedicated melee units, Hashut’s Dark Ravagers are both melee and ranged units. The Regiment of Renown only has 10 ammunition and 80 range, but that’s more than enough to put a dent into an enemy unit before charging in for the kill. The ranged attack deals armor-piercing damage that also breaks shields, reducing enemy missile block chance by 24%.
As far as melee is concerned, Hashut’s Dark Ravagers have a lower defense rating but get a bonus to attack and charge. In addition, their attacks also get a +18 bonus against infantry units. If that wasn’t enough, the Regiment of Renown gets access to two extra passive abilities in the form of Guardian and Revel in Fear, and a significant physical resistance buff of 20%. The fact that they can also fire whilst moving is just the cherry on top. The only major drawback is that Hashut’s Dark Ravagers don’t come equipped with shields.

5The Severed Claw
The Severed Claw is a melee infantry Regiment of Renown that can be recruited by multiple races, including Tzeentch, the Warriors of Chaos, and the Daemons of Chaos. This RoR is based on Aspiring Champions, but there are some pretty massive differences between the two. At first glance, The Severed Claw seems worse than a regular unit of Aspiring Champions, but that’s only because the Regiment of Renown fulfills a different role on the battlefield. Namely, this is a halberd infantry that loses the shield but gains armor-piercing attacks and a +30 bonus against large units.

Another thing that immediately stands out about The Severed Claw is its Barrier, which gives it an extra 1,000 hitpoints and can regenerate when the unit isn’t in combat. In addition, the Regiment of Renown gets Charge Reflection, Expert Charge Defense, and the Mark of Tzeentch. Even though a lot of its stats are lower than those of Aspiring Champions, The Severed Claw performs significantly better when fightingelite cavalry units, monsters, and certainLegendary Lords.
4Da Big Un
Da Big Un is a Rogue Idol on steroids that can be recruited by Greenskins players who own The Warden and the Paunch DLC. A max-level Rogue Idol has almost the exact same stats as Da Big Un in melee combat, however, the latter gets a long-range weapon that transforms it into a specialist artillery piece. If push comes to shove, Da Big Un can still fight just as well as a regular Rogue Idol, so you’re getting the best of both worlds here.
Da Big Un has a very respectable range of 400 and an equally impressive missile strength of 373. This makes the elemental monster just as good, if not better, than most traditional high-tier artillery pieces. The Regiment of Renown only gets 10 ammo, but that’s hardly a drawback since you’ll want to switch it from ranged mode to melee mode anyway as soon as the enemy closes in. That said, Da Big Un does have a special ability called Rock Bottom that can produce extra ammunition if needed, albeit at the cost of a few hitpoints.
3Queen Bess
Queen Bess is a unique Regiment of Renown not based on any pre-existing units and holds the distinction of being the largest artillery piece in Immortal Empires, although there are some with significantly more mass. The unit was introduced alongside the Curse of the Vampire Coast DLC and there’s some debate over whether it should even count as a Regiment of Renown because it’s unlocked via a rite. That said, most players feel that itshouldcount because it is recruited from the same panel as other RoRs and you can only get one of them.
Queen Bess has the same passive abilities as other Vampire Coast artillery pieces but gets more missile strength, flaming ammunition, and a special ability known as Monstrous Impact. Monstrous Impact is a debuff that triggers whenever the mega cannon hits a target and slows both the movement speed and charge speed of the affected unit by a whopping 60%. In addition to that, Queen Bess also has an incredibly long range and deals a significant amount of armor-piercing and explosive damage. The reload time could be a bit better, but that’s just a small nitpick in the grand scheme of things.
2The Granite Guard
The Granite Guard is a ranged infantry Regiment of Renown for the Chaos Dwarfs that was introduced with the Forge of the Chaos Dwarfs DLC. This RoR is based on Chaos Dwarf Blunderbusses, which are already fantastic units, and completely blow their counterparts out of the water in almost every way. A few of their stats are a bit lower, and they lack a shield, but otherwise, the Regiment of Renown is far superior to the original.

The Granite Guard comes with more health, armor, melee defense, weapon strength, and a better charge bonus. Their missile strength is a bit lower, however, their attacks suppress enemy targets and slow their movement speed by 30%. The Regiment of Renown also gets an additional passive ability known as Dig In that increases its range by no less than 40% and gives it an extra 15% missile resistance as long as it’s standing still. Finally, The Granite Guard also gets 10% more fire resistance compared to regular Blunderbusses.
1The Avalanche Mortars
The Avalanche Mortars is a weapon team Regiment of Renown available to Skaven factions. However, only players who own The Shadow and the Blade DLC can actually access and recruit it. Despite being classified as a Death Globe Mortars Regiment of Renown, this unit is actually based on Poisoned Wind Mortars, both visually and stats-wise. That said, its ammunition does indeed fire Death Globes rather than Poisoned Wind Globes.
The Avalanche Mortars have identical stats to max level Poisoned Wind Mortars save for a couple of important differences. In addition to having the Anti-Infantry attribute, the Regiment of Renown also has more than five times the weapon strength of a unit of Poisoned Wind Mortars. Needless to say, these guys hit like an absolute beast and are an absolute nightmare to deal with if you’re running an army primarily comprised of slow infantry units.
