It has been over four years since Riot Games releasedValorant, and the game has grown to be one of the biggest esports in the world. With a fully functioning esports infrastructure and calendar already set up and the game becoming a premier esports title, why has Riot not added a replay system yet?

While the replay system has been memed to oblivion, Riot has previously confirmed that it’s coming. And a new video released byValorantFrance teases more details. But what excuse does Riot have for not having a foundational feature for competitive games when even Marvel Rivals just released with one?

There is yet another tease forValorant‘s replay mode

A replay system is one of the most important features in competitive games, especially ones likeValorantthat have a major focus on esports. It lets players analyze their performance and improve team strategies. The addition of replays will enable players to review pivotal moments, dissect strategies, and even identify opponents’ habits.

Without this tool, teams must rely on external recording software, which captures only a limited perspective. Replay systems also benefit casual players because can relive epic plays, learn from mistakes, and have an easier time making content off of their games. Riot’s reluctance to prioritize this feature has left many scratching their heads, especially sincereplays are standard in similar games.

But all hope is not lost. The lack of a replay system inValoranthas drawn criticism, especially since Riot originally marketed the game as an esport-focused tactical shooter. Riot’s Tech Lead Marcus Reid revealed in a May 2024 development video that the replay system is still in its prototype stage.

Riot Games France recently confirmed in a YouTubevideothat more information about the replay system would be shared in early 2025. It’s an update for sure but we’ll believe it when we see it. The delay has already become a running joke among the community, so we’ll wait for the results.

Riot has no excuse when even Marvel Rivals has a replay system.

While Riot has introduced numerous features toValorantover the years, including agent updates and improved training modes, the lack of a replay system undermines its credibility as a top-tier competitive shooter. So while its great that we’re getting it eventually, it should’ve never taken this long.

The community has expressed growing frustration over the lack of a replay system, especially sinceRiot has no problem adding new skin bundleslike the recently announced Araxys 2.0. While cosmetic items generate revenue, players argue that core gameplay improvements, like a replay system, should take precedence.

One Reddit user noted, even casual titles like “Call of Duty had a full match replay system in 2010 running on the Xbox 360.” Another pointed out that evenMarvel Rivals, a chaotic action game, launched with a robust replay feature amongst MANY other features missing fromValorant.

The funniest part is that it won’t be just other devs that do it better in terms of having these features. The mobile version of the game that’s currently under development has alsoalready been leaked to have a replay systemand a better training range.

AsValorantheads into its fifth year, Riot Games has a chance to address one of the game’s biggest problems, but will it? Let us know what you think of this in the comments!
