TheUnchartedfranchise is not only one of Sony’s biggest franchises, but also one of it’s most beloved of all time. Its first title debuted back on the PS3 and was one of the best-selling games on the console. While some players believe Naughty Dog’sThe Last Of Usis their best title for the PS3, many would argue that it is in fact one of the several Uncharted titles.

The Uncharted franchise truly captured the hearts of many players with their wonderfully designed worlds, film-worthy level of story telling, and character portrayals that took cut-scenes to newer heights than they had ever been before. Down the line, the franchise dabbled in other gaming genres such as a collectable card game and a puzzle game for mobile devices. However, the core games have always followed its special blend of Action Adventure.

8Uncharted: Fight For Fortune

Made for the Playstation Vita, Uncharted: Fight For Fortune had completely different gameplay compared to all other games in the franchise, focusing on being a collectible card game. It featured characters, locations, and items seen from other entries in the Uncharted series, but other than that, the gameplay itself was incredibly basic and did not feature any revolutionary mechanics or deeper level of strategy.

The game did feature online multiplayer, however, due to the passage of time, the servers for all of its online features have since been shut down.

7Uncharted: Golden Abyss

Another Uncharted game made for the Playstation Vita,Golden Abyssfollows Nathan Drake on a journey to find the lost city of Quivira. This game features all the elements of an Uncharted game, but none of them were able to perform on par with the original title.

The Vita’s unique take on the controls did not deliver as good an experience as the PS3 controller, but despite all of its shortcomings compared to other entries on this list, Golden Abyss is still a good game. It does what Uncharted does and takes players on an enjoyable experience while out of the house or when the lights go out.

6Uncharted: Fortune Hunter

This is the only Uncharted game released for the android and iOS platforms. Many players were expecting it to be an endless runner game, which would make sense with all the Uncharted games' numerous chase scenes stemming back to the developer’sCrash Bandicootdays.

However, this game is of the puzzle genre with elements of action and adventure. Players will tap and slide to affect each map’s puzzles and move along a numbered path as they solve each one. The game tied in withUncharted 4, with players of Fortune Hunter being able to acquire exclusive rewards to use in Uncharted 4: A Thief’s End.

5Uncharted: Drake’s Fortune

Serving as the first game out of all the Uncharted games, Drake’s Fortune set the bar for what would become one of Sony’s most beloved franchises. It founded some of thecore elements of how Uncharted games would handle their platforming, exploration, combat, and how vehicles handled.

Players felt like they were able to play a feature film like Indiana Jones or National Treasure. Its biggest shortcoming was how limited the level aesthetics were, even though the designs were incredible. This game would rank near the top of any list back in its day, but it does not offer as much as future titles would.

4Uncharted 3: Drake’s Deception

Uncharted 3does a lot of things really well. With better gun-play mechanics than any of the previous titles, the in-game combat aspects were the best they had ever been. The environments were a lot more open and gave a sense of grandeur, but this ultimately made other entries feel more detailed in the smaller sets they had going for them.

With improved visuals and graphics, Uncharted 3 had a plethora of impressive, diverse, and memorable scenes just like the other entries before it. This game would place much higher had it focused on the little things as much as the rest.

3Uncharted 2: Among Thieves

Uncharted 2took everything that made Drake’s Fortune so amazing and improved upon it in every way. The level designs were far more elaborate and visually stunning, camera angles were diverse, and while the plot of the story wasn’t quite as engrossing as the first, the way they tell the story was improved to explore more about each character.

It gives a nod to the fact the characters have events taking place in their lives between the stories the games are focusing on, with histories we may not be aware of. Character interactions were a lot more compelling and felt like they mattered more than the first game, and it also added improved combat mechanics to the slightly clunky gun-play of its predecessor.

2Uncharted: The Lost Legacy

This game is the most well known Uncharted game outside the mainline series of games; it is also noticeably shorter than most of the other games. It follows the secondary characters Chloe and Nadine on their own adventure.

It draws heavily from the semi-open world segment of Uncharted 4, providing the fun of an open-world area to explore without the entire game being built around it. Even though the story of Nathan Drake came to an end, this game shows the franchise can survive in the lives of current, or even brand-new characters, going forward —if the developers ever wish to return.

1Uncharted 4: A Thief’s End

Uncharted 4 was on another graphical level from all previous entries, and the story telling was undertaking its most elaborate challenges yet — not only exploring the origin story of Nathan Drake, but giving him a previously unknown brother who had to be carefully worked into the story to not create any plot holes.

The handling of this was nothing short of masterful. The game’s biggest shortcoming was also its greatest strength; while it was a much slower story, lingering in select locations far longer than was necessary, it also focused on characterization and personal stories more than any previous game, offering the richest narrative experience of all the Uncharted games.
