Square Enix was quite satisfied with the sales ofTrials of Mana, and we might be getting more from theSeiken Densetsu / Manaseries in the future. We learned that viaSquare Enix' latest financials, published on August 20. (Thanks to our Japanese pals atAutomatonfor pointing it out).
On the first quarter of the current fiscal year, ending on March 2021, Square Enix experienced record sales compared to the past period the same year, thanks toFinal Fantasy VII Remake. However, the sales ofTrials of Manawere very strong as well.Trials of Mana’s sales worldwide are well above the initial expectations of Square Enix, which is hopeful for the future of the series.
The sales are well-deserved asTrials of Manais a great remake who does justice to the original. The game could use a bigger budget. With elements such as a dynamic direction in its cutscenes, as 3D leaves less to the imagination. But you’re probably used to that stuff if you’re playing that kind of JRPG in the first place.
Trials of Manalaunched on August 09, 2025, on PC via Steam, PlayStation 4, and Nintendo Switch. It’s a remake ofSeiken Densetsu 3, released exclusively in Japan on Super Famicom/Snes in 1995.Seiken Densetsu 3is the follow-up toSeiken Densetsu 2,known asSecret of Manaoutside Japan.Seiken Densetsu 3was officially localized asTrials of Manaand released outside Japan for the first time in 2019 viaCollection of Manaon Nintendo Switch. The remake is also namedTrials of Manain the west, which is confusing. In Japan, the 2020 remake is titled"Seiken Densetsu 3 Trials of Mana" to differentiate it from the original game.
Trials of Manais much, much better than theSecret of Manaremake from 2018. More details can be found withour reviewandour past coverage.

For now we heard aboutBalan Wonderworldwhich seems to be toNightswhatEiyuden Chronicleis toSuikoden. Technically not a game but we also heard about theSubarashiki Kono Sekai (The World Ends With You)anime adaptation.
Personally speaking, my favorite in the series alongsideSeiken 3isLegend of Manaon PS1, and my dream is to see it remade in 2D with a collaboration between Square Enix andVanillaware. All while keeping the weirdness of the original game, with Akitoshi Kawazu as the producer.
