Akira Toriyama’sDragon Ballhas featured many eccentric partnerships that were unexpected, but the one that fans believe to be the most confusing was Gohan and Future Trunks. In the series’ future, where the world is ruined by Androids, Future Gohan is Future Trunks’ mentor. In fact, he is the only person Future Trunks relied on, and they have a great relationship.

However, this great relationship is doubted by many fans to this day because it was never really focused on when Future Trunks came to the present and met Gohan. He only revealed that he was trained by Future Gohan, and after that, he didn’t even have a proper interaction with the present Gohan. This seemed a little odd, considering their bond.
This relationship had a lot of potential, and Akira Toriyama could have explored it even more in the present timeline. But ignoring it completely led fans to believe that theDragon Ballmanga creator made things up as he went along.

The Bond Between Future Trunks and Future Gohan
Although Future Trunks and Future Gohan’s bonding is not much reflected upon in the originalDragon Ball Zseries, fans still get to learn about them throughDragon Ball Z: The History of Trunks. It was a special TV anime film that was based around Future Trunks and his life during the time when the androids destroyed the world completely.
Dragon Ball Producer Believes No Adaptation of the Franchise Has Been 100% Faithful to Akira Toriyama’s Original Manga
According to the narrative, Future Gohan found Future Trunks in the ruins of a city, and after a lot of pleading from Future Trunks, he decided to train him. As their training goes on, bothFuture Trunks and Future Gohan develop a special bondas they have more things in common than they realize. However, all of this goes down the drain when Future Gohan dies.
While he fought bravely against the Androids, he was not able to stand up to them and gets killed. Later on, when Future Trunks finds his body, he gets so enraged that he finally unlocks his Super Saiyan transformation. This in itself speaks for their relationship in theDragon Ballnarrative.

Akira Toriyama Might Not Have Planned Gohan and Trunks’ Relationship
Future Gohan and Future Trunks’ relationship as mentor and apprentice was special in the future timeline, butAkira Toriyamadidn’t give it much thought when Future Trunks came to the present. This is reflected in the fact that he had little to no interaction with the Gohan from the present timeline.
Fans expected Future Trunks to react somewhat when he saw the current Gohan or at least talk to him a little. But the currentDragon Balltimeline did not focus on their relationship at all.

Toriyama made things up as he went along, I’m convinced that he didn’t think of Gohan being Trunk’s mentor until much later in the Cell Saga when he did the Trunks manga. It is weird that he had little to no interraction with him in Z and spoke more with Krillin.
Instead, Future Trunks seemedmore obsessed with his father, Vegeta, and tried to develop a bond with him.

Super Saiyan Devil: Akira Toriyama Didn’t Create This Dragon Ball Transformation That Can be the Next Form of Gohan Beast
This led fans to believe that the bond between Gohan and Future Trunks was something that Toriyama did not plan initially. He just made it up as he reached the plot, and this did not work as well as he expected because their bond had potential, and he could have explored it even more.
Dragon Ballis available to watch on Crunchyroll.
