Leaked images from the upcomingMinecraftmovie starring Jack Black surfaced online earlier today, and while the images have since been removed from the internet, they haven’t given fans much hope for this highly-anticipated adaptation.
The Minecraft movie has gone through a lengthy development process. DeveloperMojang Studiosfirst received offers for a television adaptation all the way back in 2012, but opted to decline until the “right idea” came along, according to a report from The Financial Times (viaVG247). Mojang eventually agreed to develop a movie adaptation with Warner Bros, with Shawn Levy originally brought on board to direct.

Are we one step closer to a current-gen version of Minecraft?
The project has gone through multiple directors over the years, with It’s Always Sunny In Philidelphia star Rob McElhenney also in the director’s chair at one point in time. But fast forward to today and the movie has now been filmed with Jared Hess at the helm and Jack Black set to star as everyone’s favourite block character: Steve.

While filming for the movie ended earlier this year, there has been very little shown off (aside fromsome controversial AI images), with fans still eager to get a first look at the movie via a trailer. However, earlier today, images from what appears to be some form of internal guide - which clearly were not intended to be released - gave fans their best look yet at Jack Black as Steve.
We won’t be posting the images in this article, as Warner Bros has issued copyright strikes to anybody who circulates the images (thus, simultaneously confirming that these images are legitimate). However, they showed Jack Black in a sky-blue top and dark blue jeans whilst wielding a stone pickaxe. Also seen in the images were a moss-covered creeper and a pink sheep.

Over on Reddit, many of the responses to the design choices are mostly negative. “The creeper needs [a] rework. The green furry skin [doesn’t] look right for the creeper,“one usersaid. Whilstanother usersaid that it “doesn’t look bad,” before going on to say, “The sheep could use a face rework. I’m not sure how I feel about JB being a normal human. Then again what would a realistic Steve look like? This will be interesting.”
“I genuinely hate the look of these things, the creeper is especially ridiculous considering how they at least kind of tried to make the bee and sheep realistic,“another usersaid in response to the leaked images. One usereven said that it will be “the worst movie of all time.”
