TheSpider-Versehas inevitably been one of the most successful franchises for Sony, having spawned two movies that broke multiple records. While the first film,Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse,not only had a tremendous run but also received critical acclaim and acknowledgment at the Oscars, the sequel,Across the Spider-Verse,performed even better, especially at the global box office.

That said, it was only a wise idea that a third installment in the film series,Spider-Man: Beyond the Spider-Verse, was greenlit. But now the studios seem to be having second thoughts, as reports surface about it having taken the worst decision for the film due to creative reasons, seemingly further delaying it in return. And, as expected, fans are anything but happy about this news.
Sony’s Decision May Further DelaySpider-Man: Beyond the Spider-Verse
After the much-awaited spectacular release ofAcross the Spider-Versein 2023 followed byits ravaging run and breaking of box office records, fans had been patiently waiting forBeyond the Spider-Verse, which reportedly had originally been scheduled to hit screens by March 2024.
But while that got delayed due tothe strikesand the complexity of the film’s source material, it seems like fans will have to wait for much further than 2025 before they finally get to witness this third installment. This comes after exclusive reports from a scooper about Sony’s alleged shortcomings.

According toThe InSneider, industry insider Jeff Sneider has reported that most of this upcoming movie in the film series has, apparently, been scrapped.

And while the cause behind this is being cited as“creative reasons,”it doesn’t change the fact that this would hinder the release.
To say the least, as@DiscussingFilm shared on X, if these reports are indeed true, then this move at the hands of the studios sets this much-anticipated movie up for a release much further down the line. To be more precise, the film hitting the screens before 2027 seems unlikely after this.

Helmed by Joaquim Dos Santos, Kemp Powers, and Justin K. Thompson, this isn’t the first time this next installment in the franchise received such a disheartening update. Previously, insider Alex Perez also reportedthe film could be a long way from its release, at least by 2 or 3 years.
All of this being put out there, there must be some truth to these reports and the chances of the studios having actually taken this decision are considerably likely. That said, fans of theSpider-Verseare, unsurprisingly, anything but happy withthis turn of events reportedly unfolding for the saga.

Fans React toBeyond the Spider-Verse‘s Reported Further Delay
While the fact thatthese animated films from the web-slinger’s universetake so much time and creativity to make was one of the only disappointments from the saga, the studios delaying the film’s release has only further enraged fans. For one, they can’t understand the reasons behind these shortcomings.
If anything, at this point, fans are holding on to pretty much little to no hope of getting to witness this long-awaited third installment within this lifetime. All in all, here are the furious and sarcastic reactions of fans to this exclusive insider report onX:

How does this happen after the overwhelming success of the previous Spiderverse films?

WTF??? Curious as to what was so bad they had to scrap???

The last movie was so amazing man… why can’t Sony just let the team cook 🤦♂️
For what it’s worth, if these reports are true, then the future is indeed looking more or less bleak for theSpider-Versewhich was supposed to end in a trilogy. To say the least, the only thingfans can do for now is hold on to hopeand just wish with all their might that this the worst-case scenario for this project stays at delays and doesn’t lead to it getting scrapped entirely.
