Further, withTulsa King, he brought forth actor Sylvester Stallone as a mafia named Dwight Manfredi. But in the midst of these projects, Sheridan revealed in an interview with Joe Rogan that he isn’t too worried about pleasing critics.

Taylor Sheridan Revealed Why He Refuses to Cater to Critics

Taylor Sheridan has brought a powerful cinematic empire with hits likeYellowstone,1883, andTulsa Kingunder its umbrella. And for him, authenticity and realism were the most pivotal factors on which he based his projects. This was surprising since in the modern world where directors are more interested in reviews and critics, Sheridan paid more emphasis on his cinematic vision rather than on critical approval.

In aninterviewwithJoe Rogan, the filmmaker revealed why he doesn’t care about pleasing critics. Sheridan’s animosity could also be justified given howYellowstonehad great ratings when it landed on the screens, with numbers that only a few shows could have dreamt about.

“An idiot”: Even Taylor Sheridan Will Agree That Tulsa King Season 2 Episode 7 Has Written 1 Character to be a World Class A-Hole

Despite this, it had a mixed critical reception, and throughout its run has won only one Emmy Award.Taylor Sheridanfurther questioned their relevance in today’s time and added:

I just don’t understand why [critics are] still employed. What is the purpose that they serve other than speaking to other completely disconnected, supposedly highbrow people who live in congested urban areas? They seem to feel a need to judge any project [by] how is it looking at the lens through today’s new ‘question morality.’ ‘What should we be making movies about? And you can make a s*****y movie about something they support, and they’ll gonna support that movie

The iconic filmmaker feels that the critics use a very specific lens to judge a particular show. And they focus more on the political as well as social ideals of a project rather than its quality. Further, for him, the real goal as a director is to showcase real experiences to the audience rather than pushing any message.

For Michael Kelly Taylor Sheridan Is ‘God’ of Television

Famous for his roles in projects likeHouse of CardsandJack Ryan,Michael Kelly has always had a keen eye for television. This is evident from the fact that he’s currently working on two of the most hyped shows on HBO and Paramount, namelyThe PenguinandLioness. The latter is in its second season and also features the likes of Zoe Saldaña and Nicole Kidman. It’s directed by the genius Taylor Sheridan.

The filmmaker is popular for bringing in several highly acclaimedtelevision showsout there. While he’s definitely a fan favorite, even Kelly has deep respect for theYellowstonecreator and detailed more on this in aninterview. He added:

I’m a little surprised that he was able to actually, in my opinion — I’ve seen the first two [episodes], read the first eight — and I think he was somehow able to make it better in the second season than the first, and I loved the first season. So, hats off because it’s incredible what he did.

Further, the director operates on a whole different level, and he’s“damn close to as genius as you’re gonna get.”Kelly also added that in the history of television, only a few creators have had eight or ten shows running simultaneously. And with that, he added that Paramount has landed a jackpot as they’ve“got the god of television.”
