The last year of the decade has been riddled withThe WitcherÂnews due to not onlyÂThe Witcher 3: Wild Huntlaunching as acomplete edition on the Nintendo Switch, but Netflix’s live-action take on theshow launched on the streaming platformtoo. We’ve also seenÂThe Witcher 3land on Xbox Game Pass roughly around the same time as the show hit Netflix, so there’s not really been a moment to breathe without inhaling some form of Geralt of Rivera. On December 20,The WitcherÂlanded on Netflix as a live-action show with Henry Cavill playing the protagonist. The release seems to have created a surge in popularity once again as the game has been rising the charts on Steam. On Twitter, video game industry analyst Benji-Sales reported that on December 23, CD Projekt RED’sThe Witcher 3: Wild HuntÂhad hit a total concurrent player count of over 50,000players on Steam.According toSteam Charts, the game when it launched back in May 2015 is shown to have hit over 90,000 concurrent players. Since then the last noticeable spike in players was May and June 2016 when thefinal DLC,Blood and WineÂlaunched. The charts have remained in the 20,000-30,000 area after that surge until June 27, 2025, when the peak started growing. By December 26 there were over 70,000 concurrent players jumping on the Steam version of the game. The player count across all available platforms is also anticipated to be much higher.Additionally, Benji-Sales reported that in the US,ÂThe Witcher 3: Wild HuntÂhad become the third best-selling game on Steam, sitting beneathÂHalo: The Master Chief CollectionÂandÂJedi: Fallen Order
With the show already beingapproved for a second series, it’ll be interesting to see if the concurrent player count rises again once it launches on Netflix. We’ve been waffling about the show over the past week or so here at DualShockers, and to add to that weeven have a review. Also, as a side note, I’d love to see Netflix take on the developer’s upcomingCyberpunk 2077.Â
