Many, if not all, gamers know aboutGrand Theft Auto (GTA), and one of the most popular installments in theGTAfranchise isGTA 5, which was released back in 2013 on the PS3 and Xbox 360. Throughout the many years,GTA 5has received countless free updates and upgrades, which can help it run and keep its player base interested.

One of the main updatesGTA 5received was in regards toGTA Online, which has had plenty of free updates that provided a large amount of content for the gaming community to enjoy. However,GTA 5was on track to receive even more content in the form of a single-player story DLC, which sadly never emerged, and now we may know the reason why.
Why Did GTA 5 Never Receive Any Single-Player Story DLC?
Over the years, theGTAgaming community has debated as to why there have only beenGTAODLC’s rather than any single-player DLC’s. After many years of debate and searching, there are some gamers who think they have found the reason why gamers never received any single-player DLC.
Keep in mind this is only a rumor, but some gamers believe the reason we may have never received a single-player DLC forGTAis because back in 2014, Leslie Benzies, one of the main producers at Rockstar at the time, was more focused on online games than single-player content.

This led to a disagreement between Benzies and Dan and Sam Houser, who were also in charge ofGTA 5‘s development, which eventually led to Benzies leaving Rockstar and taking a large majority of the staff with him. This led to the development ofGTA 5slowing down, especially on the single-player content.
Even though progress had already been made regardingGTADLC’s, sadly, Rockstar was unable to continue this work after so many members of the development team left. Rockstar was then required to replace these staff members and train them in the use of their systems and engines.

During this period, theGTA Onlineteam was making massive strides in progress regarding its future content, which meant Rockstar focused more on the futureGTA Onlinecontent, rather than start fresh on the single-player content that had been sitting there for so long.
Why Did Rockstar Never Return to the GTA 5 Single-Player DLC?
One of the main questions that gets asked regardingGTA 5is: Why did Rockstar never return to making any single-player content for the game? Many gamers have always thought Rockstar just decided it wasn’t worth its time, as it had numerous projects already on the go and felt it was a waste of resources, but sadly, this wasn’t the reason.
Unfortunately, the reason why Rockstar no longer wanted to work on single-player content forGTA 5is mainly down to the fact thatGTA Onlinewas already doing so well, and it felt like a lost cause to return to the single-player campaign, rather than just focusing on the multiplayer aspects.

Another reason why Rockstar has focused onGTA Onlineis because it makes money, with thousands of players logging in each day, spending money and time on the countless activities that Rockstar has been working on over the past few years.
Sadly, this is the cause of many games not pursuing single-player DLC, as multiplayer games tend to have a more marketable aspect to them, which can continue for many years. For example, at the same time Rockstar was working onGTA 5, it was also working onRed Dead Redemption 2, which was a fantastic game and had many minor updates since its release.

Even thoughRed Dead Redemption 2was incredibly popular and had many opportunities, including its own online game mode, it sadly didn’t have the popularityGTA Onlinehad, which meant that even that game mode was sadly left behind in development hell.
