Lucasfilm has enjoyed a lot of success with Pedro Pascal’sThe Mandalorian, its first live-action series based on theStar Warsfranchise. Helmed by Jon Favreau, who famously led the start of the MCU,The Mandalorianfocuses on Din Djarin, a lone bounty hunter of the Mandalorian race.

The Mandalorian, which premiered in 2019, is set five years after the events ofReturn of the Jedi (1983),focusing on Din’s journey after the fall of the Empire and before the emergence of the First Order. For three seasons, Favreau and Pascal have earned plenty of plaudits for their work, but a recent comment from the showrunner has shed light on a glaring plot hole in the series.

What The Mandalorian Creator Jon Favreau Said About Pedro Pascal Starrer’s Glaring Plot Hole

Season 3 ofThe Mandaloriantried to delve into the origins ofPedro Pascal‘s character significantly more than the first two seasons by focusing on Din Djarin, Bo-Katan Kryze, and their fellow Mandalorian warriors fight against Moff Gideon in their bid to end his reign of terror and retake their home planet of Mandalore.

Despite the recent approach,Jon Favreauhas always found it tricky to properly address the past of the Mandalorians. Apart from Boba Fett’s armor in the original Star Wars trilogy, Din Djarin is the first Mandalorian seen in the Star Wars galaxy after the events of the animated Star Wars Rebels series.

His existence has raised questions about the Mandalorians’ absence during the original trilogy, which Favreau’s series has yet to answer. During an interview, the showrunner did try to tackle the same, stating (viaScreen Rant):

“We were trying to fill in what that Mandalorian lore was, that underground secret community that the Mandalorian lived in. Because here we were after the original trilogy, and the only suit of Mandalorian armor we saw in live-action was on Boba Fett. Either they were someplace else, or they were operating in secret.”

Favreau’s suggestion that Din and other Mandalorians were either not on their home planet or just operating in secret around the galaxy during the original trilogy indeed makes sense inThe MandalorianSeason 1 due to the introduction of the Great Purge of Mandalore.

How the Mandalorians’ Absence During the Original Trilogy Is Confusing Star Wars Fans

The Great Purge of Mandalore was the genocide of the Mandalorians, which forced Mandalorian survivors to operate in secrecy. Since Season 1 didn’t mention any timeline concerning the event, it allowed Favreau to shape his storyline without delving deeper into why the Mandalorians weren’t around during the Galactic Civil War.

However, the Mandalorian spin-off TV showAhsoka, which premiered earlier this year, sees the droid Huyang confirm the fall of Mandalore took place after the Galactic Civil War, implying the Mandalorians were still on Mandalore during the time of the original trilogy.

Favreau can’t ignore such a glaring plot hole and now most find a way to explain their puzzling absence during the original trilogy era inThe Mandalorian.
