Thelong-awaited fan translation patchofThe Legend of Heroes: Zero no Kisekiwill be available on March 14. It’s been rebranded asTrails from Zeroto keep in line with the official English releases. Modding team Geofront has released a remarkably high-quality trailer to commemorate.
Zero no Kisekioriginally released for the PSP back in 2010, with a PC release in 2013. An enhanced version titledZero no Kiseki: Evolutionwas also released on the Vita in 2012, featuring full voice acting for the main story. TheTrails from Zeropatch is for the PC version of the game only; there are currently no plans to release a PSP or Vita patch.

A fan translation patch ofTrails from Zerohas existed for a while, but the Geofront set out to take that base translation and edit it to reach the standard of the officially localized releases. The same original team also released atranslation patch for the sequelAo no Kiseki(Trails of Azure).
The Geofront’s patch features a number of enhancements beyond the translation edits, however. Numerous bugfixes and performance improvements have been made. New features include a turbo mode, a message log, and even autosaves. As for the script, it has been meticulously overseen by ardentTrailsfans to be as accurate and in-line with the official series releases as possible. English players jumping in with onlyTrails in the SkyorTrails of Cold Steelexperience should be right at home.
Trails from Zerotakes place shortly after the conclusion of theTrails in the Skytrilogy, running concurrently to the firstTrails of Cold Steel. The events ofZeroand its sequel are referenced inTrails of Cold Steel 2; it even included a brief section where main character Lloyd is playable to bridge the gap between the two games. Even so,ZeroandAzureare perfectly playable on their own without that knowledge, and vice versa.
Withofficial PS4 ports ofZero no KisekiandAo no Kisekidue out in April, some fans had hoped it would mean that an official localization was coming. Even developersNihon Falcom have stated their desireon the subject. Alas, that doesn’t seem to be the case yet, but we’ll be sure to keep you updated if it does. I’m still waiting on a localized release ofTrails of Cold Steel 4, personally… hint hint, NISA.
A full step-by-step guide on installing the patch will be provided by the Geofront on release day. A Japanese PC copy ofZero no Kisekiwill be required, with links to official retailers alreadyavailable on their website. Be sure to check back there on March 14. See you in Crossbell!
