Following rumors and speculation of a dedicatedXboxhardware, we finally have confirmation of theROG Xbox Ally Xfrom ASUS.

During the June 8th Xbox Games Showcase, we had the official confirmation of what weoriginally reported back in March.

ASUS Rog Ally

Codenamed “Keenan,” the handheld was designed to look “unmistakably Xbox.” Jez Corden, who broke the story earlier this year, confirmed that the ROG Xbox Ally X is indeed “Keenan.”

There will be two versions of the ROG Xbox Ally, with the specs listed below.

The Xbox Ally is “an Xbox console you’re able to hold in your hands,” said Xbox President Sarah Bond. The Ally will also be able to run games in various ways, including throughXbox Game Pass, your existing Xbox library, Steam, Ubisoft Connect, and GOG. But how does it feel in your hands?

The ROG Xbox Ally X Is Heavier Than You May Realize

Our friends atPolygonrecently had a chance to play with the ROG Xbox Ally X.

The most noticeable thing about the ROG Xbox Ally X was, unfortunately, how tired my forearms were after just 20 minutes of playing the Gears of War remaster.

Compared to similar devices, the ROG Xbox Ally X is the heaviest, at a whopping 1.58 lbs. The Nintendo Switch 2, for example, weighs 1.18 lbs with its Joy-Cons attached. Compare that to the 14.03 oz of the original Nintendo Switch with Joy-Cons and the 14.82 oz weight of the Switch OLED + Joy-Cons.

The weight of the ROG Xbox Ally X is comparable to that of theSteam DeckOLED (1.41 lbs) and theLenovo Legion Gobase model (also 1.41 lbs). As someone who, despite having fairly large hands, has struggled to play both the Steam Deck OLED and Legion Go lying in bed, the weight of the ROG Xbox Ally X is a big concern of mine. Part of what makes the Switch 2 so enjoyable is how comfortable it is to hold. Yes, it’s heavier than the original Switch, but it’s still incredibly comfortable in my hands.

Another concern about the ROG Xbox Ally X is the price. Currently, neither model has a listed price. The ROG Xbox Ally has 16GB RAM and 512GB storage, while the ROG Xbox Ally X has 24GB RAM and 1TB storage. For comparison sake, similar models of the Lenovo Legion GO are $699.99 and $749.99, respectively. Presumably, the ROG Xbox Ally models would be priced similarly, but Microsoft did just announce price raises for theirhardwareandgames.
