Baldur’s Gate 3, which debuted back in August 2023, quickly became a critical and commercial success, winning five BAFTAs and numerous other awards. Even though it’s been a year since the title’s release, it still continues to lure in thousands of players on a daily basis.

The gaming community believes thatBaldur’s Gate 3is the game of the decade, and even Bethesda Game Studio’s boss, Todd Howard, agrees with it. However, instead of just praising the competition, it’s high time for Bethesda to learn and adopt one of the best features inBaldur’s Gate 3for its upcomingElder Scrolls 6!
Elder Scrolls 6Will be a Bust if it Doesn’t Learn From Larian Studios
While you might think that there is bad blood between Todd Howard andBaldur’s Gate 3, with the title sucking a bit of hype aroundStarfield‘s launch, Howard has nothing but praise for the game.
While chatting withKinda Funny, Howard stated that it would be wrong to say that Larian achieved overnight success with its RPG game and pointed out the studio’s previous hits, such as theDivinityseries. ForBaldur’s Gate 3, Howard believes that Larian has done an incredible job and has nothing but praise for the game.

Later in the interview, Howard explains that even Bethesda is made up of a bunch of gamers, and popular titles inspire the studio. He doesn’t mentionBaldur’s Gate 3, though it seems to be implied.
I think we look at all the games right. I don’t want to pinpoint particularly that one. We’re big gamers–we see things in all games [and] we say, ‘Oh, you know, that’s actually a better way of doing something that we’re trying to do.

If Bethesda is really learning from the success ofBaldur’s Gate 3, the company must also adapt the game’s romance system for the upcomingElder Scrollsentry.
A huge part of any open-world RPG is making out with other fictional characters. Larian is a studio known for crafting immersive game worlds where you can engage in s*x scenes and infidelity.Baldur’s Gate 3excels in this departmentas we can have more than seven romance characters as you roam around Faerûn. Each character has unique stories, quality dialogue, and meaningful intimacy.

Even though Bethesda brought a well-thought-out romance system inElder Scrolls V: Skyrim, it lacked depth. The characters interact quite minimally and are limited to completing tasks. Once you get married in the game, there isn’t any further development, and the characters feel more like roommates than partners. It was a shallow system that lacked the depth we saw inBaldur’s Gate 3.
Bethesda Must NailElder Scrolls 6Otherwise It Might Fall Into the Abyss
In the last couple of years, developers such as Larian have released games that raised the bar for the RPG genre by featuring engaging and fun gameplay that doesn’t feel like a chore.
However, the same can’t be said for Bethesda. The company’s last release,Starfield, despite its positive reception upon launch, proved to be a failure. It couldn’t evolve on the“Bethesda magic”and even failed to get the basic things right.

What’s worse is that Bethesda took one year to craftShattered SpaceDLC forStarfield, ignoring the hype around theFalloutfranchise, which proved to be a big bust. For $30, it couldn’t bring anything worthwhile to the table and wasn’t enough to steer the game away from its core issues.
The way Bethesda has handledStarfieldandFallout 76doesn’t give a lot of hope to gamers. People believe that the studio has lost its magic and can’t produce the same hits it was once known for.
The company’s future now completely depends upon the success ofElder Scrolls 6. If it doesn’t learn from its rivals and bring what gamers wish to seek in RPG games, the title will be another failure. This might be the final nail in the coffin for Bethesda and could lead to its downfall, just like Firewalk Studios afterConcord.
