Remember the rumor going around about the $149 Nintendo Switch Lite and $199 original Switch that Walmart would sell during Black Friday? Well the retailer officially confirmed that the “ad” circulating the internet is completely false. The ad screenshot originally came from a tweet fromNewsVideos:
And then that same ad was posted on theCheapAssGamer forums. Eventually the forum was asked by Walmart toremove said ad, along with the site ownerCheapyDbeing given an official statement from a Walmart spokesperson:
I can confirm this is not Walmartâs Black Friday ad. We havenât released our ad yet, but stay tuned! Weâre excited about all we have to offer Black Friday shoppers.
While it seemed like an incredible offer, it’s important to remember that in the coming months before Black Friday any deal that looks too good to be true probably is. Especially when it comes down to console discount deals from Nintendo, since the video game company rarely allows for price cuts this early to their systems and certainly not ones as deep as that.
The Nintendo Switch was thebest selling hardwarein the month of September, as well as the best selling for the entire year. Which makes sense as September saw the release ofThe Legend of Zelda: Linkâs Awakening as well as the launch of the newÂNintendo Switch Lite, a smaller, portable only iteration of the console that only costs $199.
And following the release of the Nintendo Switch Lite, the system has surpassed15 million unitssold in total for North America. Sales in the region this year are up by 20% year to date, at least through September. Nintendo also stated that the Switch platform has seen 14 different games pass the 1 million sales threshold. As of now,Mario Kart 8 Deluxe is still the consoleâs best-selling game, withÂSuper Mario Odyssey andÂSuper Smash Bros. Ultimate following closely behind.
