Having a direct lineage from games likeJourneyandAbzu, you might not have expectedSword Of The Seato have boss fights. Well, it does! Or rather, it hasonefinal boss encounter at the very end of the game.
Total number of bosses aside, the battle thatispresent inSword Of The Seais pretty cool! As an added bonus, there’s a fun and challenging trophy tied to this fight too, which requires you to survive the entire encounter without taking damage once.

Doing this is easier said than done, however. Despite there not actually being afail statefor this fight, successfully dodgingeverymove is tricky.
If you’re trying to survive Tornamun, the giant flying snake, without taking a hit, let me pass along some advice. This will earn you the Untouchable trophy.

Phase One - The Tower Climb
The fight starts with you finally surfing up the giant tower you’ve been seeing in the distance for the entire game. This first part, while the sky is orange, is dead easy with nothing that can damage you. Hit the boost patches or don’t; it doesn’t really matter.
Despite the lack of danger, it’s a good time to get your bearings from this new perspective. Be sure to move around a bit to get used to the feel of movement here.

Next, the sky will darken, and the tower will break up into pieces. Use fully charged jumps to safely navigate these gaps, and don’t forget your double jump if you’re not sure you’re going to make it.
After the tower reassembles, Tornamun will start hurling giant rocks at you. My best tip here is to keep moving and circling around the tower, changing direction and dodging an incoming rock as needed.

I’ve run this fight multiple times, and I only ever got hit here if I stopped moving, then didn’t have time to react to an incoming projectile. You’re more likely to have time to dodge if you’re already in motion anyway.
Lastly in this phase, you’ll hit a halfpipe with boosters, then a section that looks like a space station with patches of floating fish hovering everywhere. There’s nothing to do here and no danger, so just enjoy the view and take a breather before the tougher phase two.

Phase Two - In The Clouds
Suddenly, as if in some Tony Hawk fever dream, you’re in a halfpipe made of clouds. Note the swirling fish patches at the lip of both sides of the pipe. These are vitally important from now till the end of the fight. Surf into a couple of them, and you’ll earn a charge attack that launches directly at the boss once you press the button prompt (Square on PS5, E on PC).
Your attacks will never miss, so it’s important to launch them as soon as you’ve collected enough fish and the charge is ready. The faster you can do this, the faster you’ll finish this stage.
The attack mechanic never changes and is present for the rest of the fight, the next phase included. Do not forget about attacking as often as you can. The fight will never end if you aren’t landing attacks.
The first attack in this phase is a beam of fire directly from Tornamun’s mouth. This is actually arguably the toughest attack to consistently dodge in the entire fight. My instinct was to attempt to air out of the halfpipe when this happened and try to stay airborne/safe as long as possible, but I’d typically land too early with the snake now having the fire positioned right at me upon halfpipe reentry.
Instead, I found it was much better to stay in the halfpipe for the duration of this attack, jumping back and forth over the fire beam like a jump rope. This isn’t exactlyeasy, but it’s more consistent than trying to outlast the attack in the air.
The boss will also launch a trail of fire that takes up the entire halfpipe. For this one, youmustleave the pipe to dodge the fire. Thankfully, with the use of your double jump in the air as well, you can easily dodge all of this fire as long as you get airborne before it hits you.
The last attack in phase two consists of many fiery meteors raining down from the sky. The area of impact will be highlighted on the ground before the meteor hits, so ensure you’re paying attention and move out of the way before the impact of the meteor.
Opposite to the giant incoming rocks from phase one, where I recommended always staying mobile, I had poor luck when I tried this same strategy for these meteors.
With the momentum of the halfpipe, constantly moving back and forth makes it too hard to change direction. Instead, I’d recommend holding a steady course, then dodging out of the way to whichever side of the impact zone is more quickly and easily escaped. Rinse and repeat until this attack ends.
From there, just keep attacking till the phase is over.
Phase Three - In The Whirlpool
Now, you’re in a swirling, completely enclosed whirlpool of doom. The same “gather charges, launch attacks ASAP” philosophy carries on throughout the rest of the fight, so continue doing that here.
You can surf around the entirety of this whirlpool structure, including the walls and ceiling. Use this to your advantage to gather attack charges and stay safe.
The fire beam attack from the last phase returns here, but it’smucheasier to dodge this time. If you move constantly in either direction and keep looping around the whirlpool, the fire will never catch you. Do this till the attack ends.
After landing enough attacks, you’ll summon your dolphin buddy. The dolphin and Tornamun will play tennis with a giant energy/fire orb, and you need to time a button prompt (Square on PS5, E on PC) to send the orb back towards the boss.
I have great news, though. You can actually just mash your button prompt over and over until you deal damage to the boss. Don’t worry about timing whatsoever, just mash until it’s over.
After a few volleys, you’ll stun the boss and surf up to its head automatically. Mash the same button again to attack and deal damage.
Next, the boss will throw walls of fire down the length of the whirlpool. Some of these are short patches of fire, and some are very long patches of fire.
The long patches will never take up the entire circumference of the whirlpool, so it’s up to you to find the gap in the fire, then surf to safety before the fire hits you. you’re able to’t jump over these long strips of fire, so don’t even attempt doing so.
The short patches of firedotake up the whole loop’s circumference, so youwillhave to jump over these. Stay on your toes and dodge the fire until this attack ends.
Don’t forget to keep gathering charges and launching attacks as often as you can. Again, you do not progress the fight if you aren’t dealing damage, so you cannot forget about this action.
After enough damage is dealt, you’ll summon another buddy. This time, it’s the shark. This turns into another tennis match with the boss, only this time, you’ll volley a few more times.
Still, this is just as easy as before. Simply button mash your prompt, and you’ll essentially automatically win all of these QTEs until you stun the boss once again.
Finally, it’s time to land the killing blow. Just keep mashing the same button as before, and you’ll attack Tornamun’s head in rapid succession.
With that, the fight is over, and you’ve beaten Sword Of The Sea. If you managed to do this whole process hitless, you’ll earn a nice trophy for your mastery of this boss fight.
Luckily, it’s not the end of the world if you don’t win this fight without damage the first time. Upon beating the game, you’ll unlock a Chapter Select option. If you want another shot at the boss, just reload the Sky Abyss chapter and try again as many times as it takes to come out unscathed.
