If any Nintendo fans have forgotten about Labo,Super Smash Bros. Ultimateis making sure that they don’t. Coinciding with the release ofthe Nintendo Labo VR Kitis a new Spirit event, one that focuses on some newly-added Spirits based on Nintendo Labo hardware and characters. Unlike previous events, which lasted three days, this event will last for a full five days.
Spirits are usually sourced from classic and retro video games from Nintendo and third-party game franchises, so the Labo Spirits represent new blood. They aren’t exactly mascot material, but they should be familiar to any kids who picked up those fun cardboard kits. Four new Spirits are featured in this event, which is called “Nintendo Labo: SMASH KIT.” These include the Toy-Con Robot, the Toy-Con Car, the Toy-Con VR Goggles, and Professor Riggs & Plaise & Lerna, the last three being characters in the Variety Kit software.
The Toy-Con Car, the Toy-Con VR Goggles, and Professor Riggs & Plaise & Lerna are all support Spirits, the former two Spirits being “Advanced” and the last one being “Novice.” The Robot is a Primary Attack Spirit, so expect a harder fight there. All four Spirits will appear at different times on hourly intervals, and any experience that players gain during this event will be tripled.
It’s a significant time for Nintendo Labo, with not only the release of the Nintendo Labo VR Kit, but addedsupport for the VR headset forSuper Mario OdysseyandThe Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild. Likewise, the Spirit event also comes after significant additions toSuper Smash Bros. Ultimate, which include the DLC character Joker fromPersona 5(which itself is having a time as of late) and a stage builder—though Nintendo is currently purging some nasty user-created stages off their servers.
Theupdate forOdysseyandBreath of the Wild, which features positional tracking for the latter title, will arrive tomorrow, Thursday, April 25. “Nintendo Labo: SMASH KIT” will begin the day after, this Friday the 26th and last until May 1.
