If you were upset thatSuper Smash Bros.Ultimatedidn’t includeone of the 2,674 charactersyou decided would beperfectfor the game, you’re not alone. However, don’t fret, it turns outUltimateis getting some new Mii Fighter Costume content in 2019 that will enable you to modify your Mii and pretend that yourfavorite characterswere in the game.
This news comes from a Nintendo support webpage entitled “What DLC Is Available? (Super Smash Bros. Ultimate)”. In addition to listing the game’s previously announced post-launch content, the page also states that “Mii Fighter Costume” will be available for $0.75 in 2019. While the page doesn’t specify exactly which costumes (or how many) will be coming, it’s clear that (at the very least) one Mii Fighter Costume will be coming toUltimate.
The presence of purchasable Mii Fighter Costumes isn’t anything new for theSuper Smash Bros. franchise. Back whenSmash 4was released on Wii U and 3DS, Nintendo released six waves of new Mii Fighter cosmetics. Including costumes that resembled characters like Chocobo fromFinal Fantasy,Tails from Sonic, and Akira fromVirtua Fighter,Smash 4’sMii Fighter DLC provided more depth to the game’s built-in pool of characters. Now, even withUltimate’s mammoth-sized roster, Mii Fighter cosmetics are promising even more layers of customization for players.
Additional Mii Fighter costumes are just one of the ways Nintendo is embracing games-as-a-service monetization with theSuper Smash Bros.franchise. Earlier this year, Nintendo announced thatUltimatewould be receivingseveral downloadable fightersthat could be purchased in Individual Challenger Packs for $5.99 or altogether throughUltimate’s Fighter Pass for $24.99. Already announcingPersona 5’sJoker,Smash’s roster only looks to become more jam-packed as the year progresses.
