You would think by now that Nintendo would realize that theSuper Smash Bros.community is fed up withFire Emblemfighters. Surely they can’t announce another one as their big 2020 reveal?! Oh, ye of little faith. And whileSuper Smash Bros. Ultimatedirector Masahiro Sakuraiwas having a giggle, you can watch some of the most ardent fans die inside during the latest reveal.

If you somehow missed the news, we are getting a newFire Emblemcharacter inSuper Smash Bros. Ultimate. Revealed in aSSBthemed Nintendo Directearlier this week, fans of the series found at that Byleth – the protagonist ofFire Emblem: Three Housesfor Nintendo Switch – is going to be the final character in the first pack of DLC. And with this cancelling a load of rumors (like that Dante from theDevil May Cryserieswould be the final character), many had their hopes dashed.

But don’t take my word for it, you can see it in action:

Heres the crowds reaction for Byleth compared to the other Smash reveals 😥.fromr/smashbros

In the video above, you may see the most hardcore fans on the East Coast – the ones who camp out and watch the Nintendo Directs from Nintendo NYC. Compared to the reveal of Banjo Kazooie (around the 1:00 mark) where you can see an eruption of excitement from the crowd, the reveal of Byleth is basically a whisper. Seriously, the moment he is revealed the crowd goes dead silent.

And this is a fairly noteworthy reaction, because Nintendo NYC is known for some of the heaviest hype and excitement over characters and new game reveals. Hell, whenSuper Smash Bros. Ultimatewas initially revealed, the crowd nearly managed to blow out speakers in this recording:

Moral of the story, Nintendo? Read your audience. Yeah,Fire Emblem: Three Housesisan amazing gamefor the Nintendo Switch, and Byleth deserves to share the stage with other properties. But the dedicated crowd ofSuper Smash Bros. Ultimateplayers are pretty tired ofFire Emblem, whether you like it or not.

In any case, bothSuper Smash Bros. UltimateandFire Emblem: Three Housesis available now exclusively for Nintendo Switch.
