WWE Hall of Famer Sting is one of the biggest names in the world of professional wrestling, and he has accomplished more than most of his peers in the business. He would finally retire from pro wrestling this week, which meant a legendary WWE match would never become a reality.

There are so many matches that The Icon Sting has had over the years, including with the likes of Ric Flair, Lex Luger, Goldberg, Hulk Hogan, Diamond Dallas Page, Jeff Hardy, Samoa Joe, AJ Styles and many more in companies such as WCW, TNA and more.

Sting Retired From Professional Wrestling At AEW Revolution
In an unforgettable moment at the Greensboro Coliseum in the main event of the AEW Revolution pay-per-view, The Icon Sting wrestled for the last time, leaving a lasting impression in professional wrestling history. Paired with AEW ally Darby Allin, they defended their AEW World Tag Team titles against The Young Bucks at AEW Revolution.

Sting, joined by his sons, confronted AEW EVPs tormenting them for weeks. The match reached intense physicality with ladders, broken tables, and Sting resiliently standing after crashing through one. The ruthless Young Bucks targeted everyone, including legends Ric Flair and Ricky Steamboat ringside.
Despite a handicap situation, Sting fought valiantly. In the closing moments, Darby Allin returned, aiding Sting with a Coffin drop. Sting secured victory with the Scorpion Death Lock, marking the end of his illustrious career. Naturally, it was truly one of the best moments in pro wrestling history, as The Icon brought an end to his 40-year career.

Sting’s Retirement Means Fans Will Never Get To See A WWE Dream Match
When discussing mystical figures in professional wrestling, The Undertaker and Sting immediately come to mind. Both The Phenom and The Vigilante, with their enigmatic personas, enjoyed a ton of fan support over the past several decades.
Despite their similarities, a crucial difference set them apart – their wrestling affiliations. Sting, the Franchise Player of WCW, and The Undertaker, Vince McMahon’s top star in WWE, forged distinct career paths.

With the demise of WCW, anticipation rose for a dream match between The Undertaker and Sting. However, Sting chose TNA over joining Vince McMahon’s promotion. Sting would find massive success in TNA, becoming the TNA World Heavyweight Champion and having solid feuds with the likes of Kurt Angle, Booker T, AJ Styles and so many more.

Sting eventually made a dramatic debut in WWE at Survivor Series 2014, but by then, The Undertaker’s career was winding down with only a few matches remaining. Sting’s time in WWE was curtailed by a career-threatening injury suffered against Seth Rollins. This unfortunate incident marked his final match in the company. In subsequent years, The Icon would embark on his last wrestling journey in AEW.
Despite near misses for the dream match, including a potential bout at WrestleMania 31, plans never materialized. Now retired and beyond their prime, The Undertaker vs. Sting remains one of the most significant “What if?” scenarios in the history of professional wrestling.
