Several anime sport morally gray characters, and these characters typically have the biggest fanbases. However, in the disguise of a gray character, Tite Kubo created an absolutely despicable captain inBleach, Mayuri Kurotsuchi.
There is no hiding the fact that Mayuri has a horrible personality and is extremely cruel and psychotic in his treatment of life. His character as a mad scientist goes beyond normal experimentation, as he especially rejoices in the joy he gets from his torture methods.
Mayuri’s Atrocious Nature Makes Him Unfit to be a Gotei 13 inBleach
Mayuri might be a scientist who has furthered the technology of the Soul Society, buthe does it at a horrible cost. In his pursuit of knowledge, he has forgone any semblance of humanity or scientific ethics. He is even willing to experiment on live test subjects and gains satisfaction from cruelly torturing them. In fact, his sadistic nature is stimulated by the painful screams of women more than men.
As you might know already, killing is a joke for him. During the Second Quincy War, he even suggested the genocide of 28,000 Rukongai citizens to rectify the soul imbalance created by the Quincy. He also fathered the Nemuri project and created Nemu, his daughter, who he physically, verbally, and sexually abuses despite her blind devotion to him. He also has no issues against using Nemu or his other children in his experiments, even if it’s at the risk of their lives.
Of course, there is also a whole chapter inBleachin which Mayuri admits that he has completed his research on Quincies. In his own words:
I drilled holes in their skulls while they were still alive! I made them burn their own children! I vivi-sected them and crushed them!! I studied them until they were nothing but a pulp.
Mayuri admitted to all of his sins in front of Uryu Ishida, who is a Quincy himself. In fact, he even went as far as to lament that it has been difficult to conduct his research since Quincy was a rare breed by the time he came into power. His last experiment was on an old man who kept calling for the name of his student/grandchild. Uryu soon realized that the beheaded man was his own grandfather and mentor.

Somehow,despite all of his atrocious deeds, he is still a Gotei 13 member. So the question boils down to whether his contributions to the Soul Society have been enormous enough for the authorities to turn a blind eye to his blood-curdling and vile experiments.
BleachFans Await the Day Tite Kubo Brings Retribution to Mayuri
Mayuri’s cruelty has not gone unnoticed by fans ofBleach. Many have questioned his credibility to be a Gotei 13 member despite all the atrocities he has committed, and a lot more are waiting for his ego to be crushed into the ground. He might have benefitted the Soul Society a lot, but that doesn’t spare him from his sins.
Mayuri is definitely an interesting characterinBleach, given his prowess and skills; however, the fact that he never got punished or received a good flogging is maddening. Even during his last battle with Uryu, he cleverly managed to poison Uryu and save himself with a desperate measure.

Villains like Yhwach and Aizen might be the dominant evils inBleach, but the kind of torture Mayuri subjects his captives to is definitely worse. Yet,Tite Kubodid nothing to show Mayuri had to suffer the consequences of his actions, which has givenBleachfans immense disappointment in the author.
