Steamsubmits a new record for concurrent players just over a month after reaching its new 30 million all-time high. The latest record saw over 31 million concurrent users on Steam, which is another big achievement for Valve this year (courtesy ofDSOG).

Besides Steam’s popularity among PC gamers, there are a number of reasons that contribute to this new record, including the recent launch ofWarzone 2.0as well as the currently running Steam Autumn Sale which corresponds with Black Friday.

As you may already know, the concurrent players on Steam also count those who are surfing the store’s pages, checking out the games, and purchasing stuff. Regarding the fact that a sale is currently running, more people are obviously surfing Steam’s discounts and games than on normal days, which means we can probably tie this new all-time high to sales. However, there is a second reason, which is the fact that more people are buying games right now on sale, which means more people are playing.

The increasing popularity of Steam, especially after COVID-19 spread in the world, has made this platform the first choice for many PC gamers. Some publishers likeElectronic Arts,Microsoft, andActivisionwho used to publish their titles exclusively on their own launchers, decided to return to Steam recently as the platform has proven to be one of the best launchers in PC gaming.

Even companies likeUbisoftwho considered leaving Steam a few years earlier to launch their PC titles on Epic Games Store and Ubisoft Connect will soon return to Steam once again. This is surely going to make it much harder for competitors like Epic Games Store in the future, though some major publishers like Gearbox and Deep Silver still prefer timed-exclusive launches on Epic Games Store.

Other than that, Steam is currently the first choice for many new publishers around the world, includingPlayStation, which has already launched some of the most popular PC titles of recent years on Steam such asGod of WarandMarvel’s Spider-Man Remastered.

With the Holiday season ahead, Steam might be able to set a new record for concurrent players once more in 2022.
