Starfieldis still alive and kicking thanks to its dedicated group of planetary explorers who are still looking for thenext big find. While the game may not have cleaned up at The Game Awards this past week, picking up just one nomination (for Best Role Playing Game) and no wins, its bevy of more than 1,000 explorable planets and moons, most with multiple biomes and almost all with geological points of interest, have made its galaxy an explorer’s paradise.
One natural sight that’s still not been seen very often, though, is a mountainous volcano. While several planets feature volcanic biomes, they often don’t live up to their name, often resulting in gray, craggy landscapes, vents of toxic steam (which can be found in just about any biome, to be fair), and occasionally, small pits or even rivers of scalding hot magma, though the last item in that list seems to be about as rare as findingan actual aquatic river. There are also plenty of planets with tectonic activity, which would suggest volcanoes are present, but without any visual evidence to go along with it.

Light No Fire Could Give Me Everything Starfield Lacked
It’s certainly lit a fire in me!
But now, one Redditor has captured a series of gorgeous images that show that this wonder does actually exist in the game. Posted on Friday, December 8, the images were taken at night from an aerial view, adding to the ambiance as the magma’s orange glow radiates off the surrounding rocky crater holding it in place. You can check out the images below.
These particular images come from the planet Marduk IV. Other players responding to the post have reported seeing a similar formation, dubbed the “lone hill location,” on rare occasions, but it always had water (or in one case, “radioactive muck”) instead of magma.

Not A Common Appearance
Reported sightings of actual mountainous volcanoes in Starfield have been extremely rare, and photographic evidence of them have been almost nonexistant. There’s this postfrom a couple of months back, which shows a lone tree growing in an island at the center of a pool of magma (not unlike the new images), as well asthis one from about three months ago, which appears to show a player and their companion standing at the edge of a large magma deposit, but doesn’t really give the perspective to show the classic image of a towering mountain about to rain fiery vengence of the world below.
Even with a player base thatseems to be veering awayfrom Bethesda’s space exploration game, there are still plenty of adventurers out there scouting out the rarest finds in the game, and we’re excited to see what they may uncover next.
