Many people who grew up with Heavy Iron Studios and THQ’sSpongeBob SquarePants: Battle for Bikini Bottomwere ecstatic when THQ Nordic, Purple Lamp, and Nickelodeon revealed thatthey were remaking the game in June.We saw some gameplayin August, and are now patiently awaiting its release in 2020. For the ultra-passionateSpongeBobfans, THQ Nordic unveiled two fairly expensive collector’s editions forSpongeBob SquarePants: Battle for Bikini Bottom - Rehydrated.
The cheaper of the two isSpongeBob SquarePants: Battle for Bikini Bottom - Rehydrated Shiny Edition. It cost $149.99, and versions of it are available for all platforms. In addition to the game, it contains stickers, six lithographs, tennis stocks modeled after the ones players can find in the game, and an eight-inch Spongebob statue where he is next to Gary, is holding a golden spatula, and has a “flexible tongue.” Nice. You can check out the contents of this package in the video below:
While you could buy a Nintendo Switch Lite and still have $100 to spare with $300, you could also choose to spend that onSpongeBob SquarePants: Battle for Bikini Bottom - Rehydrated F.U.N. Edition. In addition to everything included in theShiny Edition, theF.U.N EditionofSpongeBob SquarePants: Battle for Bikini Bottom - Rehydratedalso has a set of keyrings modeled after the tikis players can find in the game and statues of Sandy and Patrick using one of their in-game abilities. You can see all that this expensive edition of the game has to offer in the video below:
As someone who adores the original game, I’m really only interested in theShiny Edition. WhileSpongeBob SquarePants: Battle for Bikini Bottom - Rehydrated F.U.N. Editioncontains a lot of cool stuff, a majority of it can be found in theShiny Editionand spending $300 on a $30 remake of a licensed game from 2003 would feel weird. Still, THQ Nordic knows how to make good physical releases and I’m sure some passionateSpongeBobfans will get their money’s worth out of theF.U.N. Edition.
SpongeBob SquarePants: Battle for Bikini Bottom - Rehydratedwill release for PC, PS4, Xbox One, and Nintendo Switch sometime in 2020. While you may’t pre-order theShiny EditionorF.U.N. Editionon Amazon just yet, their pages are live.
