Just a few days ago, wereportedon how Hazelight’s Split Fiction became the first Electronic Arts-published game to average 90 in over ten years.
While that is impressive enough, Split Fiction managed to create history for EA that massive multiplayer franchises like Titanfall, Battlefield, and more couldn’t accomplish.

Split Fiction Now Has The Record For Most Concurrent Players For A Premium Game
As of March 8, Split Fiction is now the sole record holder of EA’s highest concurrent player count for a premium (le. paid) game!
OnSteamDB, the game is listed as reaching a peak of 254,756 gamers playing it at the same time. This doesn’t even factor in the console numbers, which should be at least at par with this or possibly more.

DICE’s Battlefield V, released in 2018, was the former record holder for the highest concurrent player count for a premium game by EA. At its peak, it had 116,000 concurrent players on Steam. This was a time when cross-play wasn’t even a thing, so who knows how high it would have gone up if cross-platform games decided to buy the game to squad up even if they’re on different platforms.
As for the highest concurrent player count of any EA game, it’s Respawn Entertainment’s free-to-play battle royale shooter, Apex Legends, that’s the current king, as it managed to amass a total of 624,473 concurrent players. Of course, the game being free-to-play helped a lot.

The genre mixups are crazy in here.
While that number is impressive, that doesn’t mean over 250,000 people bought the game on Steam. Split Fiction, like past Hazelght games, features the Friend’s Pass, which lets one game owner to share the game to a friend, since the game can only be played cooperatively.
It’s not specified, but I’d wager that number includes the people who are logged in via the Friend’s Pass. That said, even if you halve it, that’s still over 120,000 people who bought it, and again, this doesn’t factor in console players.

Hopefully, EA will release sales milestones for the game soon so we know whether it’s also a financial success or not. If past Hazelight Studios titles are any indication, this one should be another commercial success for EA and the game developers.
