Aside from the story mode, Turf War is the first thing available when you start the game. Everything else (like stores and Salmon Run) will unlock for you at level four. Also, if you happen to have Splatoon 2 data saved on your switch, don’t forget to claim your free perks! With that said, let’s get into the tips and tricks you may start using right now.

10Play With Friends

This tip is going to vary based on your situation, but having a consistent group of people to play with can be a big benefit to your team’s performance. If you don’t have friends who are already playing Splatoon 3, maybe see if there are groups online where people link up to play with one another.

Having a group to coordinate can make a large difference in a team’s cohesion. That being said, if you’re a dedicated solo player, there’s nothing wrong with playing alone - just play the way that best suits your needs.

9Play Through The Single-Player Mode

If you’re a player looking to rush into PvP and rock out multiplayer all day long, this probably sounds like the least appealing piece of advice. However, the single-player side of the game is incredible for learning every mechanic, maneuver, and fine-tuned shot you could hope to practice.

In addition to that, Splatoon 3 has a great single-player mode with interesting bits of story and whatnot. Even if you’re all about that Turf War life, it’s worth wading into some solo adventures to really hone your Splatoon 3 skills.

8Use The Motion Controls

Splatoon 3 was designed from the ground up with motion controls in mind, and the controls are incredibly refined at this point. While many players may be a little turned off by the motion controls at first, they’re worth sticking around for.

You’ll be able to adjust your shots on the fly and make tighter maneuvers against your opponents. This is especially useful in Turf War, where you’ll face many opponents using the motion controls to their own advantage. Give it a chance, and it will feel fast and intuitive in no time.

7Help Teammates

Sometimes the best offense is a good defense, and sometimes, the most valuable player is the one who helps their teammates the most. If you see someone getting into a 1v1 battle, go tip the odds in their favor.

If you see someone pushing forward and getting their ink into enemy territory, keep an eye on their back to verify nobody sneaks up on them. It’s easy to get caught up in the moment and want all the splats for ourselves, but working as a team is really essential to claiming those victories.

6Ink Your Base

This one might seem a little unnecessary, but you would be shocked at how many people don’t bother to paint their own base. When they first spawn or respawn, they jump right back into the direct line of action without thinking to spend a little time inking. Paint your base, gain some easy points, and help charge up that special you’ll want to use against enemies in just a couple of moments.

It’s always worth taking the extra time to look around and make sure there’s decent coverage in your base before stepping outside to splat everyone.

5Retreat and Refill

In a game as fast-paced as Splatoon 3, it’s normal to forget that retreating from your enemy is always a viable option. When you’re deep into the enemy’s base, you might not want to make a last stand that gets you splatted. If you do, you’re sent all the way back to your side, and the enemy now has ample time to re-ink the area you were inking in the first place.

If you were to retreat for a moment, refill your ink, and wait, the enemy might show a weakness that allows you to splat them and, once again, move back into their base.

4Check Your Map

It’s easy to zone in on your immediate surroundings and forget about the big picture of the match. However, you’ll find that the map can give you a lot of good information about how the match is really going.

Checking the map can inform how you and your teammates should push forward or let you know about the base’s most problematic areas. However, don’t look at the map for so long that you are sitting idle instead of playing, but definitely open it once in a while to see if there’s a way for you to use the new information to your advantage.

3Be Careful When You Super Jump

The Super Jump is one of the coolest, flashiest, and most tempting maneuvers in Splatoon 3. When you’re eager to get back in the fight, a super jump can be a good trick; however, it may not work well if you’re using the jumps without planning. You have to use Super Jumps sparingly because if you jump right into an enemy or two, you’ll be splatted and sent right back to the respawn point.

When in doubt, take a long way, keep an eye out for danger, and play it safe. But, if you know for certain that you’ll be able to land and start flinging around the paint, then that’s what you should do.

2Try Out New Weapons

As you level up, you’ll gain access to all kinds of new weapons in the shop. They each have their own secondary abilities that you’ll also want to take into account. You might need to try out a lot of weapons before you stumble on that perfect combination of primary, secondary, and super. However, that doesn’t mean you should spend all your tickets on weapons you won’t even use.

While in the weapon shop, you can actually try weapons before you make a purchase. Definitely take advantage of this and try anything, even if it doesn’t quite seem like your thing at first. You never know what might end up becoming your new favorite piece!

1Dress Your Best

The world of Splatoon is all about that fresh fashion, and you’ll want to bring that same flair into Turf War. Unfortunately, it’s not just about looking good but also the stats you have assigned to all of your gear. You’ll need gear with three slots of bonuses to gain an advantage quickly. To acquire this gear, you have to look in the shops. you may also look at what other players are wearing and order similar outfits through Murch.

You should also consider downloading the Nintendo Online app, so you may do some shopping through Splatnet. Don’t forget that you can also earn gear through Salmon Run, though they usually only offer one piece at a time.
