Solo Levelinghas readers and viewers floored with its animated adaptation. The series is a smash hit in the shonen genre. And though manhwas are tough to render, it had most critics eat their own words for good.

This fits perfectly with its reviews and reception. The series has high ratings on both IMDb and Rotten Tomatoes. And though it is soaring in popularity, there is a downside to that as well.
While the series is centered around survival and ever-looming dangers, it does falter majorly in one regard. It is a well-written series that lacks comical elements in its pursuit of seriousness. But there is an interesting take on that as well.

In retrospect,Castlevania: Nocturneis superior in its approach to comical elements. Though the series is deeply political and gothic, the light-hearted moments balance the heaviness of the plot.
Horror and comedy blend perfectly inCastlevania: Nocturne
Like most sequels,Castlevania: Nocturnehas its fair share of flaws and follies. It may not be as glorious as its precursor but it does have an upper hand in many instances. From animation to fights, it packs a punch in its unique way.
Often it is criticized for historical inaccuracy albeit it paved the way for representation. Diversity was a step toward the inclusion of narratives, myths, and legends. This also ties well with the intermingling of different elements.

From characters to plot, theseries stands as unconventionalin its reimagination of a vampire story. Its rendition of Vlad Dracula is a refreshing take on the popular portrayals of Bram Stoker’s character.
The blend of comical elements in the plot makes it stand out. Though the series explores historical events, it doesn’t shy away from lightening the mood once in a while. This is something that most fans would vouch for.

“He immediately regretted it”: Sung Jinwoo’s Inferiority and Flaws Are the Biggest Reasons Why Solo Leveling Fans Find Him Relatable
From goofy expressions to playful banters, there are several instances of comedy as fanspointed outon X.
one of my fave things about nocturne s2 was how the characters were allowed to have such goofy little expressions outside of the bigger emotional momentspic.twitter.com/oUN6PS8ipE

Still thinking about how Annette had her silly blushy moment just to experience confused, emotional horrors 2 seconds later lmao. Like I imagine all the spirits watching her and being like “awww” and then they accidentally ruin the moment
I feel like I gain an extra life seeing these faces
I loved the scene of juste talking about the chastity vote thing to Mizrak and him being all awkward and not saying anything about it 😭
I feel like Abbot Emmanuel was pulling face faults throughout his entire screentime.pic.twitter.com/rM9ozyAnRO
Other than that, Maria calling Richter a wanker and Mizrak’s meme-worthy face is truly hilarious. It stands in contrast to the overarching seriousness ofSolo Leveling.
The banality of seriousness inSolo Leveling
Solo Levelingmade waves through its teaser and since then has garnered cult popularity. The series has had a massive fanbase over the years and continues to soar in terms of its ratings and reviews.
Be it plot or animation, it is one of the top-tier manhwa adaptations. With the second season, A-1 Studio leveled up the animation. The overarching seriousness, however, remains an issue for the most part.
In an interview withAnimateTimes, the Director Shunsuke Nakashige revealed the reasons for removing Chibi scenes from the anime. He quoted:
I thought that this work required the kind of high-end visuals that are popular these days. So I tried to avoid manga-like expressions as much as possible and made a conscious effort to use compositions, colors, and shooting processes that resembled real-life footage.
While it makes sense to not deem it cartoonish, it stripped the series of light-hearted moments and was rendered overly serious, and banal, mostly.
