Taylor Swift’s concerts have reached seismic levels of excitement, literally causing mini earthquakes. But along with this massive fandom comes an unfortunate spike in ticket scams. While scams targeting Swifties are nothing new, a recent case has taken it to new heights.

Allegedly, around 400 fans, many based in Burlington, Ontario, believed they had secured tickets for her Toronto show. Instead, they reportedly found themselves out a staggering $300,000 collectively, with no tickets in hand. The scam left hundreds disappointed and out of pocket, and this goes to show just how high the stakes of the battle for a coveted Taylor Swift concert ticket have become.

Taylor Swift Ticket Scams Are Getting Out of Hand!

This scam started like many others, with doubts and suspicion. But those faded fast when people in the Burlington community vouched for the seller. They even showed pictures of themselves at previous concerts, claiming they got their tickets from the same source.

Annette Newton toldCTV Newsthat this trust-building sealed the deal, convincing her and others to buy in. Sadly, the promise of seeingTaylor Swiftlive was too tempting, and that trust ended up costing hundreds of fans dearly. She said,

I contacted that person directly and she offered me some tickets, I asked her a little bit about her and if she could provide me some proof of some tickets she sold me in the past and she did.I followed through and asked a lot of questions, I spoke with her on the phone, I emailed her, I looked at her Facebook, people were saying ‘thank you for the tickets.’ I contacted a few people who said: ‘Yup, I got a few tickets from her.’

Newton had spent $2,500 on four tickets as a special Christmas gift, reassured by countless calls and texts from “Denise”, the person who sold her the tickets, that the tickets would arrive just before Taylor Swift’s second Toronto show on November 15.

But when the day finally came, Denise claimed the third-party seller hadn’t sent the tickets. Newton was left empty-handed and heartbroken, having to face her daughters and tell them that their dream concert wasn’t happening after all.

She wasn’t alone in her heartbreak. Three different police forces in the Greater Toronto Area are investigating a wave of complaints about Taylor Swift concert ticket scams.

Desperate to attend one of Swift’s six Toronto shows for her Eras Tour, fans who thought they’d secured tickets from resellers were left high and dry at the last minute. Some had even booked hotels or Airbnbs, traveling from places like Saskatchewan, Quebec, and beyond, only to realize they’d been scammed.

Here is what fans on Reddit are saying,
