After initially teasing it last week, Sega completely unveiled a brand new game today, titledRevolve 8in the west, andRe:volvers 8in Japan.
The game’s staff is full of stars, withYakuzaproducer Masayoshi Kikuchi at the reins.Castlevania’s Koji Igarashi for the initial draft for the characters, which were then completed by one ofFate/Grand Order’s most popular illustrators, Ryota-H. Last but not least, the music is by Yasunori Mitsuda and Shunsuke Tsuchiya. Mitsuda-san is the composer forXenogearsandChrono Cross.
Revolve 8’s story is about multiple heroes from various eras and folklores confronting each other, either to realize their dreams or simply to test their strength. It feels quite similar to theFatefranchise and features characters such as Momotaro, Aladdin, and Cinderella.
The game itself is a card-based Real Time Strategy game for iOS and Android. Two players duel using eight different cards. Each player has a main tower and sub towers. Matches are three minutes long, and the victorious player is the one who destroys the other’s main tower, or who destroyed the highest number of towers when time’s up. Each character is represented by a card, and players can summon them. The summoned characters themselves are controlled by AI and act based on their skills and abilities. Each character is also classified into classic archetypes such as “Tank” or “Striker”.
There’s also a Player versus Enemy mode called Quest Mode, which you’re able to use to train and obtain items. The mode has its own story, developing the characters.
Revolve 8will have a Closed Beta Test running from October 23rd to November 2nd, mainly to test the game’s balance. You can register for the test on theofficial site, this will make you pre-registered for the game itself as well. As always with these types of games' launch, if the number of pre-registrations reaches thresholds, everyone will get freebies.
Another unsurprising thing nowadays: the game has its own Virtual Youtuber in Japan, which you may find the first video of below.
