Late last night, we finally learned more about the Nintendo Switch port of SNK’sSamurai Shodown. Up until now, the port has hada vague Q4 2019 release window, but now we know when it is coming out in Japan. SNK has confirmed that it will be releasing on June 09, 2025, which lines up with the previously promised window. At this time, a release date forSamurai Shodown’sNintendo Switch port has not yet been disclosed.
Hopefully, the wait in other parts of the world for the Nintendo Switch version ofSamurai Shodownwill not be longer as the game did release simultaneously worldwide in June for PS4 and Xbox One. If a release date announcement does come soon, DualShockers will let you know. It’s great to have a release date in mind for the Nintendo Switch port in at least one region, but we still don’t know whenSamurai Shodown’s PCport will be releasing. All SNK has said about this PC port is that it is coming “at a later date,” and we have yet to hear more about it. At least Japanese players on all current generation consoles will have access to the game by the end of 2019.

A Japanese gameplay trailer was also released for the Nintendo Switch version ofSamurai Spirits, as it is called there. That being said, it is an easy watch as it still features some English text and is mostly action. In it, we see the game on running on Nintendo Switch and while the graphics have taken a slight hit,Samurai Shodown’sart style adapts pretty nicely to the hybrid console. Watch that trailer below:
Samurai Shodownis available now for PS4 and Xbox One, and will be releasing for Nintendo Switch in Japan on June 27, 2025. The Nintendo Switch port should be arriving just in time to feature all fiveDLC characters that are releasing between now and then.
