Prior to its release,Sakamoto Dayswas one of the most anticipated anime of the Winter 2025 season. But now? It’s just a good storyline that got treated horribly by TMS Entertainment. While pinning the blame entirely on the animation could be easy, unfortunately, that’s not the entire truth.

TheSakamoto Daysanime has more than one failing. From cutting out several manga scenes to rush the anime to adding unnecessary special effects to make up for the lack of suitable animation, the list is unending.
It’s getting harder and harder to vouch forSakamoto Days
The biggest complaint that fans have with theSakamoto Daysanime is its animation. The latest episode of the anime shows Sakamoto’s battle against Boiled, a fight that fans had been expecting for a long time, especially for theappearance of skinny Sakamoto. However, as the episode aired, fans have already resigned all hope.

Still frames, which was a major problem in the anime, keep being overused. One of the leading strengths of the original manga is its fight choreography, something that has been entirely ignored in the anime. The battle scenes lack smoothness, and the animation is jerky at best, with minimal movements.
There are plenty of cuts, and coupled with the still frames, it impacts the fluidity of the animation. Fans had hoped that the studio was saving up the budget for the major fights. However, the Boiled vs Sakamoto fight proved that no such planning was happening behind the scenes.

The animation is not the only issue withSakamoto Daysanime
Not only isSakamoto Daysrife with animation problems, but it has also skipped important manga chapters in a rush. The anime introduced Shin in episode 1 and Lu in episode 2, but the chapter in between that shows Sakamoto and Shin rescuing Aoi from a hijacked bus has been skipped. In terms of the latest episode, the invasion of the Dondenkai building was cut short. It only showed two guys getting trapped by Sakamoto and Shin.
The animation ofSakamoto Dayscould have been handled better by reserving some essential portions of the story. These specific parts, like the battle scenes for example, could have had better animation and choreography, while the rest followed the usual template. The studio decided to use an unnecessary amount of special effects and action lines to make up for the lack of dynamic movement.

I am Convinced Sakamoto Days Anime is Not Making a Mistake by Skipping Episodes From Manga
Anime likeDandadanandSolo Levelinghave adapted similar formulas so that some scenes could be prioritized over others, making the completed product look smoother and professional. While some fans may protestagainst comparingSakamoto Daysto other popular series, it is a hard truth that people need to accept.
TheSakamoto Daysmanga is available to read on Viz Media, and the anime is currently airing on Netflix.
