Due to a licensing issue, Roblox has removed the famous “oof” death sound and replaced it with a new sound…and players aren’t happy.

In a thread of tweets, the official Roblox account said that they are aiming to include more assets, including sounds, to the in-game Avatar Shop. The team then went on to say that due to a licensing issue, they have removed the “oof” death sound from Roblox and replaced it with a new default sound instead. The tweet went on to say that they intended on expanding the Avatar Shop with a whole range of both old and new sounds in the future.

It wasn’t exactly clarified by the Roblox team if this meant that the famous “oof” sound would one day return, but fans weren’t happy with the removal.

According to a report byKotaku, the famous “oof” sound effect was not owned by the developers of Roblox. Instead, it was created by an individual known as Tommy Tallarico. Both Roblox and Tallarico reportedly came to an agreement in which anyone who created a Roblox experience would have to pay 100 Robux in order to use the “oof” death sound. Exactly what happened with the agreement between the two parties is unknown, as Roblox has now officially removed the sound from the game.

When players boot up Roblox, they will now find a brand new “default” death sound, which is nowhere near as humorous as the “oof” sound. In fact, it’s a little strange, to say the least. We’d love to explain exactly what it sounds like, but it’s probably better you boot up the game for yourself or check out ashort clip on YouTube.

The announcement was made alongside the team saying that they will soon add “the ability to add sounds by getting them directly from the creators and licensors. Users will also be able to customize sounds for their avatars in the same way they customize clothing.”

More details will reportedly arrive in the future. But, for now, RIP “oof” death sound.
