The world ofRemnant 2is quite varied, with drab London-like cities and sprawling, mythical Fae libraries to traverse. Still, one location,Morrow Parish, invokes the Soulslike aesthetic and experience more than many other worlds in the game. And in true Soulslike fashion, it’s home to a challenging, yet totally optional, boss that gives players trouble.

While traveling through Dran, players tackle all manner of baddies. Most of these are human-like in nature but also wield axes and firebombs. But one big guy, the Chainsaw Drain, stands above the rest. Take this minor unique enemy and inject Fae steroids, then you have Ripsaw—an optional mini-boss in Remnant 2.

How To Beat Ripsaw

Ripsaw, despite being an upgraded Chainsaw Dran, is somewhat finicky overall. He’s fast, requires a quick time event to defeat, and the arena features numerous tight corridors where his chainsaw can make short work of the player.

Quick Time Event

First, let’s review the quick time event involved with Ripsaw. Almost immediately upon entering the boss arena, Ripsaw will lunge at the player with his chainsaw and force them to the ground. Here, players will be prompted to spam the prompted buttons to escape from the pin. If players do so quickly enough, the bar fills up, and they go free. If not, the player dies then and there.

Attacks and Counters

Next, it’s essential to consider Ripsaw’s usual attacks and counters. Once the quick time event is out of the way, it’s back to more of the familiar in Remnant 2—a lot of kiting and shooting. Ripsaw’s moves are comprised of mainly melee strikes, which players must dodge to avoid severe damage. Alternatively, Ripsaw may launch projectiles at the player. These white-hot balls of fire do damage over time in an area of effect, so steer clear.

Choke Points

Throughout the arena, players will note that, despite its initial size, many of the pathways and whatnot are blockaded. As such, these create natural choke points that work to Ripsaw’s advantage more so than the player’s. His chainsaw is absolutely devastating in tight corridors.

Avoid these hallways, or Ripsaw will charge. Instead, stick to the open areas of the arena, dodge and counter each attack, and ultimately Ripsaw will fall.

Player About To Be Killed With A Chainsaw

Like all other bosses in the game, Ripsaw has a weakness players should exploit. In this case, it’s his head. Players will want to target the head as often as possible, unleashing an entire magazine to yield the best results.
