The news comes from reliable leaker NateTheHate, and in hislatest videotalking about the Xbox Showcase predictions, the insider claimed, “Those rumors were true: Red Dead Redemption 2 is getting a next-gen update and the game will be coming to Nintendo Switch 2 later this year.”
While no definite timeframe was revealed on when we can expect the Switch 2 version of Red Dead Redemption 2 or the PS5, Xbox Series X|S patch will be released, NateTheHate adds, “It should be a few months after the Switch 2 launch, so I’m thinking late summer, early fall window.”
Adding to the Switch 2 rumor, the leaker suggests that a Nintendo Direct may be related to it, where the company will announce that Red Dead Redemption 2 will be released on the Switch 2.
Same as with any rumor, treat it with a grain of salt. While NateTheHate is reliable when it comes to these things, it’s still unofficial, so don’t get annoyed if we don’t receive a next-gen patch or a Switch version of Red Dead 2.

If true, then this is a rumor that makes a lot of sense. Not only will this move more Red Dead Redemption 2 units, but I gather, this next-gen upgrade might not be free (since this is Take-Two, after all). If I had to hazard a guess, Take-Two Interactive will release a native PS5 and Xbox Series X|S version at full retail price and offer a $10 next-gen upgrade fee for existing game owners. Hopefully, that won’t be the case, but I wouldn’t be shocked if the publisher doesn’t hide this enhancement patch behind a paywall.
Take-Two can release the native PS5, Xbox Series X|S versions alongside the Switch 2 port and call it the Definitive Edition or something. All they need to do is add in graphical enhancements, perhaps some new cosmetics or in-game items, and voilà!
