In a recent interview, Junya Ishizaki, the director ofElden Ring Nightreign, revealed various insights about the game and how it will be presented to the players. One of the most notable changes he revealed was the removal of the messaging feature, which had become one of the most immersive and engaging aspects of its predecessor.

Elden Ring Nightreignis removing the messaging system

InElden Ring, one of the standout features was the ability to leave messages for other players using an asynchronous network. These messages were often cryptic and were spread throughout the world, offering players hints, warnings, or even comedic distractions.

The messages were relayed via a ghost of other players visible in the environment, creating a unique experience. This simple act of reading someone else’s message madeElden Ringfeel more alive, like a world where countless others were facing the same challenges.

He further explained that this is due to a change in the fundamental design of the new game.Nightreignis structured around 40-minute sessions.

This decision initially raised eyebrows in the gaming community, as the messaging system had become an iconic part. However, if we examine the reason, it is clear that removing it was a logical masterstroke, one that aligns with the design goals and immersive experience ofNightreign.

Developers are focusing on the core experience

Unlike the expansive open world,Nightreignis designed to be fast-paced, intense, and session-based. By going with this context, messages while enjoyable and useful in a slower-paced, exploration-heavy game, could easily become a distraction.

From the interview, it seems that another reason for the removal of messaging inNightreignis the shift toward more direct forms of interaction. In many ways, the game is building upon the lessons learned fromElden Ring.
