There have been countless iterations of Superman in the world of multimedia, all trying to showcase a different perspective and take on the superhero. One of the biggest and most unique among the several properties in which this character is an integral part has to be CW’sSuperman and LoisTV series.

Instead of focusing on the extraordinary exploits of the Symbol of Hope, this series focuses more on the personal life of the individual as Clark Kent rather than Superman, which was the reason why many liked the show so much. Although the ratings weren’t something to brag about, they were still respectable enough to not let the show be canceled like it has. And with that, it’s revealed that WB had made this decision because of the upcoming Superman in the DCU.

CW Executives Reveal Why Warner Bros. Made the Decision To CancelSuperman and Lois

It’s not often that a small-scale project on the silver screen, especially one involving superheroes, is well-liked by the public until the production budget is of an astronomical proportion. And yet, despite all these obstacles, CW’sSuperman and Loismanaged to find its place in the hearts of the audience withTyler Hoechlin‘s different take on the depiction of the superhero.

And despite the show not being an absolute masterpiece, it was still something that everyone could enjoy watching. Thus, the report that the network was canceling the series was a shocker for many, which is justified as it was sudden. To shed more light on this, CW’s President of Entertainment Brad Schwartz gave his comment toThe Wrap.

During the interview, he talked about the reason the show was canceled due to Warner Bros. and DC Studios wanting a clean slate for any future DC projects to appear in the upcoming DCU. He said:

“They don’t want a competingSupermanproduct in the marketplace,”

This comment sits right in line with what any budding cinematic universe would want, and considering the DCU is still in development, any product that isn’t directly linked to the franchise will only become a hindrance for them in the end. Thus, WB pulled the plug on the fan-favorite series for the sake ofJames Gunn‘s upcomingSuperman: Legacy.

One of the biggest reasons why this show was such a delight to watch is the fact that it doesn’t focus on the superhero’s superhuman feats, and instead, shows the life of a hero on a more personal and empathetical level, which forms a stronger audience-character bond. Along with that, unlike most CW shows, in comparison, this was extremely well-executed, which retained the audience wanting more.
