Rachel Brosnahangained recognition for her role as Miriam “Midge” Maisel inThe Marvelous Mrs. Maisel. The period comedy-drama follows Midge’s rise as a standup comedian following a personal tragedy and lasted for five seasons before ending in 2023.
During an interview withThe Guardian, Brosnahan discussed some of the early challenges she faced with the role she is now most well known for. The actress revealed initially struggled with channeling her character’s confidence in her performance.

I spent a lot of time trying to ramp up my internal metronome to the speed of Midge and trying to channel her confidence, which, remains one of the most challenging things about playing this part.
Brosnahan made the above comment, adding that projecting the character’s confidence was something she struggled with even after three seasons.

Given that Lois Lane is arguably more confident, stemming from her competence as an investigative journalist, it is safe to say that the comic book role must’ve beensimilarly difficult if not more for Brosnahan. However, Brosnahan also won two Golden Globes and one Emmy Award for her role in the series, proving that she is a fine actress who can overcome any challenge.

In the conversation, Brosnahan spoke about the tumultuous socio-political landscape in America and several other war-torn countries. As a result, the actress felt Gunn’s take on the superhero genre was extremely timely and representative of the comic book medium’s strength to highlight the goodness in humanity.

And so, I feel like this movie really encapsulates all of that. It’s a hopeful superhero movie, which I feel like is so true to the comics.
Brosnahan made the above statement, expressing her excitement for the audiences to experience the movie when it flies into theaters this Summer.

Therefore, only time will tell if Brosnahan succeeds in delivering a fresh take on the character.
