The Consumers Electronic Show is just a day away, and it appears Sony is teasing something.
Over onSony’s official website, a rather nondescript page has appeared with a message stating “the future is coming” alongside a blurb that Sony will be showcasing “a unique vision of the future, bringing creativity and technology together like never before, to unleash new sensations and emotions.” Could it be the PlayStation 5?
Announcing a new console at CES would be a rather large departure for Sony as they’ve never done a first public reveal of a system at the venue before. Sony’s approach to revealing the PlayStation 5, however, has already proven to be a more unique case opting more for a drip-feed of information spread out here-and-there to various outlets. The first of these came back in April 2019 withMark Cerny’s Wired Interview where we got the first bits of info on the hardware itself.
With theinternal shakeups at PlayStation lately, I don’t think this is outside the realm of possibility that Sony could show the PS5 at CES, especially now that Microsoft has publicly revealed theXbox Series X back at The Game Awards. We live in an age where we are getting aFinal Fantasy VIIremake, aResident Evil 3remake, and where Nintendo, Microsoft, and Sony players can play games together. Really, anything is possible these days. That being said, it’s far from being a sure thing and very much is just a rumor, bordering on a pipe-dream.
Sony themselves may have been a little quick on the pull on their website.Various websites are reportingthat Sony may have unintentionally featured listings for their upcoming 2020 line of televisions on their website. These listings have since been removed, but these TV announcements would certainly be more in line with previous CES offerings. As always, until official an announcement, these rumors and speculation should be taken with a grain of salt. We don’t have long to wait as Sony’s CES press conference is this evening, starting at 8pm EST.
Sony has already announced that thePS5 will launch this holiday seasonand with Microsoft revealing the Xbox Series X at The Game Awards, the next generation battle for your money has begun. you may bet if Sony’s tease is in fact the PlayStation 5, DualShockers will be sure to report on it along with any other big gaming tech announcements that come from CES.
