As part of the recentPokemonPresentsShowcase, the heads over at The Pokemon Company announced Pokemon Concierge, a new stop-motion-animated series about a Pokemon resort manager, coming soon to Netflix.
Beyond its general premise, very little was explained about the show, but the teaser below gives us a short look at its art style, and seemingly, what the protagonist’s Japanese voice actor will sound like. Furthermore, the announcement over on Netflix’s officialTwitteraccount shows off said protagonist, revealing their name to be Haru, with a caption that reads “I’m happy when you’re happy.”

Like the teaser states, it’s not simply a resort in the Pokemon world, but specifically a hotel for Pokemon to stay at, perhaps sort of like the Pokemon daycare in the games, where trainers can leave their Pokemon when they can’t take them with them. It’s clear that Pokemon Concierge will be a significant departure from what we’re used to seeing out of Pokemon content, not just in art style but in premise.
Though we won’t know for sure until we see a full trailer, the teaser’s tone suggests that Pokemon Concierge won’t be an action-packed adventure where trainers battle it out to determine who’s the greatest, but seemingly a calmer and slower-paced experience. No exact information has been relayed regarding the show’s release window, beyond the vague tagline of “coming soon.”
In general, the show is quite an unexpected move for The Pokemon Company. Outside of the Detective Pikachu movie, non-interactive Pokemon content had strictly stuck to anime, most of it following Ash Ketchum. A new series with a completely different art style that seemingly eschews battling is for sure an unprecedented step for the franchise.
It may be that Ash’s recent exit from the long-running anime series is what’s motivating The Pokemon Company to branch out with its non-gaming content. As previouslyrevealed, after a short run of final episodes, Ash will retire from being the eternal Pokemon protagonist. The helm will be taken by Liko and Roy, who will begin their adventure on Paldea, the most recent region included in the mythos following the release ofPokemon Scarlet & Violet.
