Marvel Rivals, the upcomingOverwatch-style superhero shooter title from NetEase, was announced in March 2024. The game will be free to play and feature popular and lesser-known characters from Marvel comics. It is currently in the closed Alpha test phase, which began on May 10 and will continue until May 20.

After the closed Alpha test began, the developer sent out a contract to content creators who had asked for key codes to get to play the game, and the contract asked the creators to refrain from“making any public statements or engaging in discussions that are detrimental to the reputation of the game.”

This includes making comments on the game’s features, music, characters, or any game-related material whatsoever. However, this did not go well, as players protested against it. The list includes terms like“Bootleg Overwatch,”“Phauxverwatch,”“Mid af,”and others that are worse than the ones mentioned before, such as“Even Paladins is better than this trash,”“Minecraft China,”and“Ain’t this the studio that made Diablo Immortal,”among others. Although the list is fake, several gamers have said that they wouldn’t mind if it were real.

Fans like the new terms better than the current name.

DeveloperNetEase has now clarified its stance on the contract with a statementand apologized for the“unpleasant experiences or doubts caused by the miscommunication of these terms”on the official Discord server of the game. It has also added that it will be“less restrictive and more Creator-friendly”with the terms going forward.
