Igor In The Velvet Room Of The First Persona Game

Igor In The Persona Series

Igor’s been a recurring character since the first persona game. Through each title, he has been residing within the velvet room, helping protagonists fuse new personas to use in battle. The early Persona titles show that Igor is a servant of abeing known as Philemon. Philemon is the one who gave Igor his powers and tasked him with residing in the velvet room to help the main characters of each game through their journey. Like Philemon, Igor himself is powerful but does not directly interfere with the events in each game and is only there to help the main character.

After the Persona 2 games, Philemon is no longer seen directly in the game, and Igor is still operating the Velvet room, now with the help of the assistants. Igor is able to create and lead the different velvet room attendants, using them to study the hearts and minds of humans further. While Philemon is no longer directly present, it is shown that Igor continues the observation and guidance in his stead in the later releases of the series.

Igor In Persona 5

For returning fans of the series, it is immediately apparent that Igor is acting slightly off and was a much deeper and more intimidating voice in Persona 5. While this can initially be chalked up to a change in voice actors, it is revealed near the end of the game that the being you thought was Igor is actually an imposter, Yaldaboath. Before the events of the game, Yaldaboath trapped Igor away and split Levenza in order to keep the secret and misguide and stop the Trickster.

After Yaldaboath is revealed, the real Igor, who takes his usual place in the Velvet Room, is released. Igor also informs the player that for the events of this game, it was actually Igor who made a bet with Yaldaboath. Despite his capture, he still stands by his rule of non-interference, asit’s up to humanity to show him what they are capable ofinstead of him stepping in and fixing any problems himself.
