Warning - Major Spoilers Ahead
The underdog series that nobody saw coming,Peacemaker, is dancing along nicely on HBO Max - if you’re still enjoying the entertaining opening titles.
During the recently released episode 4, the final moments revealed a major twist surrounding Chukwudi Iwujiâs, Clemson Murn, and we explore how this event created a possible plot hole as well as who Iwuji could be playing inGuardians of the Galaxy 3.
Created by James Gunn,Peacemakerfollows the titular anti-hero who joins a black ops squad after the events ofThe Suicide Squad, in order to assist in the elimination of butterfly creatures around the world.
Peacemaker episode 4
Peacemakerepisode 4, titled âThe Choad Less Traveled,â not only implied that Chris had something to do with his brotherâs death, but it also had a jaw-dropping closing scene.
We see Leota Adebayo contacting Clemson Murn to tell him that she got a lead on the Butterflies, preceding a pivotal moment for Murn.
The camera slowly pans back to reveal Murn eating a similar goop as the Butterflies by way of a proboscis, revealing that the character is in fact a Butterfly himself.
If Murn was a butterfly from the start, why was he supporting Amandaâs massacre?
Fans are debating Murnâs motives now that they know he is a Butterfly, questioning why he allowed the Goff family to be killed.
The fact that Murn could have helped the Goffâs escape death - perhaps blaming it on faulty ARGUS tech - at various opportunities presents a possible plot hole in James Gunnâs show - but we think heâs too elite to let that slide.
The more likely explanation for Murnâs behavior is that he was corrupted by a Butterfly after the attack, or perhaps Murn is in favor of the Butterfliesâ extinction despite being one himself. We know that he has a suspicious past that needs explaining and this flashback could have all the answers we need.
What will Chukwudi Iwujiâs role be in Guardians of the Galaxy 3?
In an interview withCollider, director ofGuardians 3andPeacemaker, Gunn, confirmed that Chukwudi Iwuji would have a major role in the third film:
“Chukwudi, who plays Murn in Peacemaker, is one of the main characters in the movie and people are freaking out over how good this guy is. Literally freaking out. I think that I’m really happy.”
Gunn has obviously taken a shine to Iwuji after working with him onPeacemakerand fans have already begun debating who he could be playing. Gunn also hinted that the actorâs role is something that “most every big name actor in Hollywood wanted.”
Characters such as High Evolutionary and Beta Ray Bill have been speculated from within the Marvel fandom, but there is one rumor that may fit more snugly.
The possibility of Iwuji playing the Silver Surfer could be more in line with Marvelâs plans for Phase 4 and 5, regarding the introduction of the Fantastic Four.
With John Krasinskiâs possible cameo as Reed Richards inDoctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madnessdominating the rumor mill - a long awaited fan-casting - Iwuji as the Silver Surfer seems entirely plausible since the metallic humanoid is an alien.
