Sombra, the hacker, was one of the first heroes added to the main game ofOverwatch. She boasts a translocator and invisibility and an SMG on top for some added firepower. Sombra is one of the lesser played heroes as her abilities are tougher to use than a lot of the others.
Because of her high barrier of entry, she tends to be either extremely valuable to the team’s victory or one of the reasons for the defeat. Due to her being one of the more difficult heroes to master, we decided to make a list of ten tips and tricks to understand Sombra’s playstyle better.
1010/10 Know Your Counters
Knowing who Sombra is weak against is the obvious first step to mastering this character. You can either avoid these characters in combat or switch heroes. Sombra will most likely not work well in a one-on-one battle against one of these characters.
99/10 Who Does Sombra Counter
If you see these characters come up as the opposition this may be the perfect opportunity to show off your skills as Sombra, as she could be the reason for victory.
88/10 Health Packs
Hacking health packs will be a massive help to your team. These health packs will recharge quicker and give your team more opportunities to utilize them. One of the most helpful advantages of hacking these health packs is that the enemy team can’t use them once Sombra has taken them over.
This means that they have fewer options for healing and are more dependent on their healers. Hacking the bigger health packs will be more effective, however, any health pack will do.
77/10 Constantly Use Invisibility
Stay unseen. Sombra is one of the weaker heroes but her craftiness helps her subside that. This gives Sombra the perfect opportunity to sneak past the enemy team and hit them from behind.
Not only that but by hacking a health pack nearby the enemy team may also intrude on them. Using invisibility is the best way to survive as Sombra especially as she gains a speed boost while invisible.
66/10 Go To The Point
Sombra has the ability to skip past the enemy team and get to the point undetected. This could be the difference between winning and losing. A defending team will hold a chokehold tightly and it’ll be a struggle to get through.
However, as Sombra, if she were to just go to the point the defending team would have to turn around and stop Sombra from capturing it. This is a great way to break up the enemy team.
55/10 Combine Your Ultimate
Admittedly Sombra’s EMP is rather weak by itself. However, using it with your teammates makes for a deadly combination. A great example would be Cassidy’s high noon which can be stopped by shields, but with Sombra’s ultimate they have no way of defending themselves except for running to cover.
Sombra’s ultimate is one of the best team-worked ultimates in the game so make sure there is communication before using it or else it would be a waste.
44/10 Hack Heroes Whenever You Can
The best way for your team to be able to move forward is to stop the enemy from being able to defend themselves. Taking down the shield of an enemy Reinhardt will completely destroy their composition and enable your team to charge in aggressively, all because of a simple hack.
Taking down an enemy’s ability to shield their teammates is the best way to take them by surprise. Not only that, but constantly hacking the enemy team will leave them open for your whole team to attack.
33/10 Use Translocator Wisely
Always make sure the teleporter is placed in a safe location as Sombra is extremely easy to target when she has a translocator to use. When attacking it’s best to place it behind the enemy team or on a vantage point that allows you to pass them all without being seen.
Making sure it is either placed out of the enemy’s sight or even on top of a hacked health pack would ensure a safer teleport.
22/10 Don’t Stick With The Team
One problem many Sombra players have is trying to stick with the team. Yet, Sombra is one of the most independent characters in the game, with her invisibility and teleportation she can easily manage without the team.
Sombra needs to concentrate on herself like hacking through a shield hero or else getting to the point. The only thing Sombra needs cooperation with is her ultimate and to hack health packs to heal her teammates.
11/10 Hack Then Shoot
This is a very simple tip for Sombra players, but it’s one of the most effective tactics. For example, if a Mercy is hacked she has no way of flying to teammates leaving her open for all allies to attack.
Hacking them will stop them from potentially getting away using abilities or stunning you. This is the most assured way to take down the enemy successfully. Doing this toenemy supportis the easiest and most effective option.
